Re: Canola and OGG support

So have your source package contain the tarballs for base, good and bad, and just compile the parts you need? If Debian's packaging system does not allow for multiple tarballs (still? RPM handles...

Re: Canola and OGG support

I'm rather curious: why can't the gstreamer vorbisidec plugin be built against Nokia's stock gstreamer-base? Considering the binary package does not need the rest of the modified gstreamer stack?

Re: Canola and OGG support

The ideal solution would be for Nokia to actually ship the Vorbis decoding plugin from upstream. Or let kulve help them out with gstreamer?

I wonder if a strategy similar to how the Livna...

Re: Last.fm group

2 to go now. Wishing the icon display over at Last.fm handles transparency properly, it looks a bit ugly right now :P

[Canola] Last.fm group

Thought I'll give it a plug here: we have a Canola group (http://www.last.fm/group/Canola) over at Last.fm.

All the neat stuff (group radio station, etc.) won't kick in until there are 10 members,...

Re: Vala for Maemo development

Check out Genie (http://live.gnome.org/Genie). It's an alternate front-end language to Vala, compiled using the same compiler, with a Python-esque syntax.

Re: "N810 Linux PDA": PIM, Text Editor and Software Installation

Preferably something that supports SyncML, the standard protocol used by mobile phones. Even standard Nokia phones (i.e. non-Symbian) have decent PIM support: a workable address book (that lets you...

Olpc Xo 2.0

From infoSync World (http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/9379.html):

Key goals for the OLPC XO 2.0 include an even lower target price of $75 than the original $100 price point, reducing power...

Re: What do we know about Diablo (Maemo 4.1) ?

One explanation for the uncertainty surrounding apt-get upgrades from Diablo to the next release: even with Debian and Ubuntu, sometimes upgrades between different distributions go wrong. Other...

Re: Commercial Software. Evil?

Nobody has brought it up here, but part of the reason might just be that proprietary software developers distrust platforms that are openly touted as being open. Thus Linux in general, and Maemo in...

Re: Adobe Media Player for Nseries OS2008??

Well, Windows and Mac. And Adobe AIR alpha is out for Linux/x86 -- hopefully Nokia can utilize its relationship with Adobe (they ported Flash Player to armel just for the NITs, after all), to get the...

Re: Canola2 beta8 Known Issues * Bugs : Please check here First if you have problems

Yes, Tuomas' ogg-support-0.6 .

Regarding the cover -- yes, I would have realized it sooner, if I had not pre-pruned my covers a few beta releases ago. All my albums have only one cover, which is...

Re: Canola2 beta8 Known Issues * Bugs : Please check here First if you have problems

This does not appear to be known yet:
- I'm using Canola2 to play mostly Ogg files. Canola would stop with 0:00 remaining at the end of each track, until I manually press right on the D-pad or the...

Re: Canola2 beta8 Released : Release Notes

To slightly rephrase, the problem is that while with GTK applications, pressing the FN key would lock it in FN mode until the next key is pressed, in non-GTK application the locking does not happen,...

Re: CTIA Coverage: The Nokia N810 - WiMAX Edition

Wonder if they have modified the case in other ways, apart from the change in colour and the bulge at the back. On my N810, the backlight for the keyboard leaks out through the edges. Does not affect...

Re: What's Garnet up to with the expiration date?

Neat theory, with one problem: Access (nee Palm Software) has had a fall-out with the hardware Palm company, and the latter is now developing /their own/ Linux-based OS.

Unless there's been...

Nokia acquiring Qt-maker Trolltech

From LWN (http://lwn.net/Articles/266744/):

This is an interesting development. Presumably, given Maemo's an entrenched investment in the GTK+/GNOME toolchain, Nokia will find itself in the...

Re: user password

(caveat emptor: I'm not sure what setting the password for the default user would do to the normal boot-up sequence. Given that it's not really a security risk I'd suggest leaving it alone)

Re: user password

If you cat /etc/passwd | grep user from xterm, you'll notice that the password is set to just '!', compared to a long hash for root's password. So nobody will be able to log in as user through SSH.

Speaking of the MBA's multi-touch trackpad, is the N8x0's LCD multitouch-capable? That would be a neat software upgrade.
