Re: Maemo or Ubuntu or Android

It's basically reformatting the device and reinstalling the OS.

Re: Maemo or Ubuntu or Android

You don't need those. It's really just about seeing if the stuff can be made to run on the tablet.

Maemo will do you just fine, so long as you have reasonable expectations.

[Canola] Remember Place In Movie?

Is there a way for Canola to remember where i was in a movie the next time it loads it? That is, if I start a movie, get 30 minutes in, and have to shut it off and go do something else, is there a...

Re: Playing videos in canola....

Sorry I'm just now coming back to this.

My experience has been that it seems to have something to do with either file size or bitrate. I've loaded a heap of videos onto my n800, but they're .mkv...

Digitizer Registering Taps In The Wrong Place

Hi all.

Lately the screen/digitizer on my n800 has been registering taps in the wrong place. If I tap somewhere, the tap will register somewhere else (e.g. sometimes I'll tap to move a web page...

Re: Playing videos in canola....

I've had that problem before, as well. Those same videos play just fine in the default media player, but Canola skips them. I've only had this issue with mp4 files created using Handbrake, though.

Re: Warranty Repair

*Bump*

I just sent my n800 into the repair center (the internal SD card no longer mounted because the little magnet in the door was gone). It got there Tuesday last week (election day in the US)....

Re: not able to use a SD card in the internal slot

Is there any way to get a replacement magnet? I'm having this problem, as well, and there is no magnet in the tiny square at the center-top of my door.

Re: Running Debian in a chroot

Thanks much. It's a weird error. Taps seem to register about two inches to the left and slightly down from where I tap.

Re: Running Debian in a chroot

Hi all. I'm trying to track down some digitizer errors (presses not registering, presses registering in the wrong place) and would like to uninstall Debian. Can I just do it through the application...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Exactly. That's why I lurve my n800. It's all but replaced my laptop for 95% of my computer use, and now I'm traveling for the first time in years without a laptop in my man purse.

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Where did I say anything about taking away the pocketable one? Where did I "complain about the size"?

I'm talking about offering a new form factor to tap into a slightly larger size that seems...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Yeah, I remember when that phone came out. Always thought it was neat. Like I said, I've just never been able to make the PDA thing work for me. 5x8" note cards and a Levenger Circa paper calendar...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Right, but that's precisely my point. Nokia's not in the laptop business. They're in some other business, and the form factor is currently being worked out. My n800 runs Abiword and Gnumeric and...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Um, ok. I never claimed that Nokia advertised it that way, nor did I claim that there was any nefariousness and I certainly wasn't complaining about my 770 or my 800—the latter of which has almost...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

Yeah. I never was able to make the PDA thing work for me. Too much hassle. And I *tried*, man, I really, really tried. I bought the first Palm. The second Palm. An iPaq. A Newton. I wanted it...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

It would also be nice to see the dashboard of the n8x0 rethought, if the HWR were integrated. I've always loved Avi's backdrop on the Newt and the way that document creation worked (i.e. you just...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

That's sort of it, innit? I, too, am tremendously frustrated by the common refrain of "well, it's open; learn to program and you can contribute." That's sort of like saying "If you don't like this...

Re: Arrington on TechCrunch - Wants A Touch Screen Web Tablet Built

I would imagine that there are loads and loads of people who, like me, want a slightly bigger n800. 5x8 would be fantastic. I don't care about fitting the thing in my pocket. That's why I have a...

Re: AbiWord for Chinook and Diablo - Open Beta

That's it! Turns out I had it installed properly, but I kept launching the deb version by accident.
