So, here's an update. I created a .desktop file for syncing my addressbook, so now I have no need to manually sync through the terminal (but I do still have to initiate the sync by launching an app)....

I use an IMAP account for mail, CalDAV for calendar, and syncevolution for CardDAV for contacts. I manually sync the CardDAV, but the other accounts can be set through the Accounts settings.

I have no problems with port numbers on my N9 running PR1.3. In fact, just yesterday I was using the stock browser to check some sites that required different ports, and no issues whatsoever.
