I'm having the same problem, no idea what's happening.
A few versions back groups worked and privates didn't, now it's inverted.

I have used the official client before, but I only don't receive messages from certain contacts, is this caused by the same reason?

Indeed, I didn't think of this before, so I read a little about AMOLED and it does say that they burn quickly, so I'm abandoning the idea and embracing the movement.

I don't get messages from some contacts, but I can receive media, also the app crashes from time to time and sometimes it disconnects.

So, I've been trying to make this happen for a while now, I'm currently using the Billboard app, in which you can fill the text to display with spaces, but even if you fill every space the text does...
