Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

Removing the shielding only took 10 mins more patience but revealed pristine chips underneath.

Using the USB cable on the port (for ease of probing), only resistances of 140k and 160kOhms were...

The green patches near the lens hardly came out but they all look like the patches on the left.

The shielding isn't easy to...

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

The only place solder could have got is inside the USB cage. I doubt there's a serious short-circuit potential in there?

With the hotter iron (40W), I might have placed the tip on the cage for a...

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

Entirely the fault of the lead-free solder. I ordered some lead rosin-cored solder from eBay and it flowed from the bubble within a second.

Unfortunately, N900 is now dead. I'd previously used a...

Re: Security: Heartbleed on N900

Seeing as I'm going to have to replace all my passwords (had a nice manual system going back 15 years), maybe someone wants to look at fixing KeepassX (not the vulnerability, it never compiled...

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

I cannot get solder to stick to the PCB. I've scraped off a 2mm strip, heated it, added flux with pen, reheated, added rosin solder (lead-free) and it won't stick. It will occasionally form...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

My N900 was borked last night through relying on BackupMenu.

I have about 5 backups and went to restore the original in order to try and isolate a battery drain problem I have.

I selected both...

Re: Is it worth buying a Nokia N900 right now?

As ever, depends what price you can get it for.

It's not as good as Note 3, but it'll be < 20% of the price.
Likewise Jolla's phone.
If that Neo900 is out, that will be better as only having...

Re: N900 no longer finds phone networks

Battery drain is almost as bad as before -- 6 hours even in Offline Mode and 70% C4.

Weird how all this stuff started at the same time.

I'll probably start a new thread on that though if I...

N900 no longer finds phone networks

It has no problem recognising the SIMs, the same SIMs work in an old Sony Ericsson 750.

It shows no reception icon at all.

Yesterday, I noticed that it had far worse reception than the SE 750...

Re: Cheap (chinese) external BL-5J (and other models) battery charger: reverse engineering

That's pretty bad advice.

Whilst there are official batteries, they use out of date technology and better ones are available.

There are no official chargers that I can see. Paying more for a...

Re: Recommended browser for N900?

Still using Opera 12 b16 which is fast, compact and fully implements HTML 5. It's got some serious bugs though and doesn't support Flash.

Re: [Announce] Opera Mobile 11

Opera Software have moved on. There was never a 13.x or 14.x build. After 12.16, they abandoned the nice compact Presto engine and started using Chrome's Blink engine. It has some nice features...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

I'd have to disagree. The N900 case is good, but if better cases are more available and could have:

1. 4 row bezel-less keyboard.
2. CBD-type anti-reflect display
3. Higher capacity, cheap...
