Re: Decent media player resolution

I've flashed to the latest kernel. It isn't the speed it is the overall resolution. The BBC feed only works up at dial-up bandwidth and as such looks like a really poor quality videophone. There must...

Decent media player resolution

First of all thanks to all the board members who made my introduction to the N800 relatively painless. (kernel patched - 2 8Gig cards on the way) I know that Nokia were disappointed with sales of the...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

And of course now I have the tools to monitor memory usage (I just run a top -d120 >top.txt) I can't reproduce the problem!

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

I'm running a nightly - 2007-03-14 - I've made a minor customisation to the skin, just set the player select field from drop-down box to display only (in fact Ben did it for me). It means that to...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

I can't reproduce it at will yet, but there appears to be a memory leak in Opera but only under a certain set of circumstances (It was running at 49Mb a minute ago when I closed the app). The site I...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

As luck would have it I find a way of capturing the information and now I can't reproduce the error. Just from casual observation it appeared there was a memory leak in opera when using it to display...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

I've tried top, if I re-direct the results to a file it seems to provide me with an ls of the /sbin folder, before the table of processes, is that correct? I'd like to post output from top (or...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

OK - I've managed to stop it from locking up, but I might just be masking the problem. I remembered that I extended the memory partition on the card that came with it so I created a large (128Meg)...

Re: Hang when SD card is in use?

Both cards were formatted in a windows PC to remove old clutter, and the 1Gb card has been completely reformatted and partitioned to install dual boot on it, with nothing in the files partition (I...

Hang when SD card is in use?

I'm getting a problem with an N800 (latest firmware) which is difficult to completely pin down but I THINK it only happens if I have an old SD card in the device.

If I leave the tablet idle for...

Re: Download source for e2fsprogs?

Anyone? I'm trying to dual boot to an SD card and don't have a Linux desktop so need to partition and format the SD card on the N800.

Download source for e2fsprogs?

If I run apt-get to try to install e2fsprogs it generates an error (lame, I know, but I don't have my N800 with me at the moment so I can't post the exact message). Does anyone know of a download...

Re: Help needed getting started with OS structure

I managed to re-locate a 1Gb SD card. I've followed Schmot's blog. When I get to the stage using apt-get to install GNUtar it stalls. I've searched through the forums but can't find a solution.

Re: Minor customisation

Thanks,

My memory is a bit fuzzy but I don't think find was part of the OS in the old days. I'm not 100% sure as I was a systems integrator working on MS-DOS, Concurrent Dos (ICL DRS300), and Unix...

Re: Minor customisation

Thanks again.

Edit: The Busybox pages are full of useful info. I'm starting to make some progress.

Re: Minor customisation

Just a quick note of thanks to all those who have replied to this and other threads I've posted in the last week. I only bought the N800 to use it as a dedicated Squeezebox remote control (4...

Bang! I just got hit by a truck! ls -al | more

What's the command line which will enumerate down a tree and pipe it into grep? I generally hate it when people ask for spoon feeding, but it's...

Re: Minor customisation

Can anyone point me in the direction of a knowledgebase that describes the use of locale tools and I'll try to see if I can edit it myself? While I'm looking what flavour of Unix Debian does the N800...

Re: Minor customisation

I've tested it in as many applications as I can and it works as expected.

I've found a minor bug. en_GB is shown instead of English (GB) in the regional control panel.

Re: Minor customisation

Thanks!

I'll get on it. I've managed to find a decent on-line unix course. I'll spend some time going through it to remind myself of the shell commands. Things have moved on a bit since I last...

Re: Help needed getting started with OS structure

Thanks,

I found the information on dual booting on this site's wiki and that is my next project. The blog does fill in a few of the gaps so I'll actually know why I'm executing some of the...

Re: Help needed getting started with OS structure

This site's wiki is far more useful than the maemo.org wiki for new users looking for a "getting started" guide.

Re: Minor customisation

Thanks for the suggestions.

A shortcut on the home page isn't a problem as the remote control is just a web page.

On a completely different note does streaming mp3s over WLAN usually kill the...
