Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

Those scores are not representative of Sailfish performance. They're representative of performance in Alien Dalvik.

As has been discussed a few times, the two are really not related at all ......

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

By your calculation that would be 980, not 1400 then.

Do you seriously think that any remotely sane person would go ahead with supposedly de-mothballing an ex Nokia factory on those numbers, and...

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

It's a scam. Anyone who claims otherwise is either hopelessly naive or shilling for them.

They claimed to have 10K paid pre-orders.

There are possibly 3-4 of these confirmed out in the wild,...

Re: Softbank buys ARM

Anything below the 2000p range is an absolute steal. With IOT, Servers & Apple likely shifting wholesale (save Mac Pros) to ARM in the medium term, I wouldn't have been surprised to see their price...

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

The delusional nature of many on this forum is really quite spectacular.

That's all I have to say.

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

Holy **** ... if anyone is stupid enough to fall for this, then they deserve everything they (don't) get.

That's hilarious.

I'm incredulous that Jolla are supporting and enabling these people...

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

It's vapourware, of course it's perfect.

The best case scenario (for Sailfish faithful) is that this is some kind of tax or money laundering scam and a few semi-functional and partially supported...

Re: Sailfish on Turing Phones?

Seems like more smoke and mirrors. I rather suspect that pressure on the phone was significantly less than would be placed by an average ~1400kg family car rolling slowly over it.

Re: Oysters SF is the most advanced Sailfish OS phone to date

Oh yeah? Like people claim it's "so fast" on the Nexus 5, when it's barely any different at all to the original Jolla phone? The only thing that makes a real difference on either device at the...

Re: Oysters SF is the most advanced Sailfish OS phone to date

Complete hogwash. The A53s are MUCH faster and more power efficient than the Krait 400 cores. Even in single core tasks they're not significantly slower. It's not even close, the SD801 is horribly...

Re: Oysters SF is the most advanced Sailfish OS phone to date

Then it's not a working prototype. Since they claim they'll have their own UI layer on top of Sailfish on the phone.

3 weeks ago they said production had started and first customers would receive...

Re: Russian Open Mobile development based on SFOS

Android doesn't have anything to do with it. SMS and E-mail word filters are based on data interception, not intrusive device snooping. The latter occurs when suspicion has already been raised.

Re: Jolla C

Then why do Android Apps in AD not suffer any kind of performance penalty and work nominally, but Sailfish apps the opposite (and UT not).

No your experience is not. Everyone's is the same.

Re: Jolla C

I think Dalvik bypasses Mer / SF entirely, at least for basic command queues and resource management, rather than sitting on top of it.

Hence why Android apps inside it don't have the task...

Re: Meizu Pro 5 with Ubuntu coming soon?

IIRC a major overhaul of animations and some UI elements (together perhaps with some rendering back end) is meant to occur soonish.

But yeah, the dev team is tiny, and a huge amount of their time...

Re: Meizu Pro 5 with Ubuntu coming soon?

Apparently OTA-15 is intended to be a big milestone ... and I know Sony are still actively assessing UT.

Fingers crossed there'll be more later in the year.

Re: Meizu Pro 5 with Ubuntu coming soon?

It's potentially great.

On SD820 or equivalent chipsets, this can be really quick (though the Exynos 7420 is no slouch). Though I'd much prefer a wired solution (MHL).

Still not sure why...

Re: Jolla C

Can you read? You even quoted the part of my post where I'd seen €275 as opposed to €175.

Most issues are not battery related. Many obviously not so.

Transporting Lithium-Ion batteries by air...

Re: Jolla C

There is some doubt that they will implement any kind of payment processing for the Jolla Store before the Jolla Phone's 3rd birthday. Indeed, I suspect they may have given up on it completely now...

Re: Jolla C

I'd seen an early misprint on a site re: the price - €275 ... €175 is a rather better deal.

However, sending things around - regardless of sparsely policed import regs - is rather less complicated...

Re: Jolla C

I don't particularly see the point of this. At least not the transparent 'developer programme' / 'community device' stuff. Also seems like a poor value prospect when you'll be able to import the...

They still haven't delivered dual-sim support. That is the absolute most basic level of additional feature support that the Intex phone needs. It was originally due for late October launch ......

Re: Intex Aqua Ace

At this stage, the best guess is probably never. They show no signs of being able to deliver the updates necessary for the Intex phone to launch, and Intex aren't going to wait forever. If they...

Re: Jolla releases new statement about financing and licensing

Their best bet is to get the 'global' version of a decent high end Chinese phone from one of the tier 2 brands there, and have it be identical, in all but logo stamp.

They'd save a massive amount...
