I second that opinion: official WhatsApp client on a Galaxy SII+ goes offline when the is removed from the app list. On a Lumia 800 the status changes when leaving the app.

This update gives the true status about the connection! Before Mitakuuluu displayed "logged in" while the network connection was broken. Most of the time connection had to be forced by disconnecting...

That does not work. With 2.8 the same.

Disconnect and connect is enough to get Mitakuuluu connected again. Something for a cover action? Now I have quit as a cover action.

By default the log level is INFO

This command wpa_cli log_level DEBUG 1 increases logging info with a epoch timestamp in front of it

Beware it produces a large file, currently 10k/min

Mitakuuluu 0.1-26 works fine, even reports a received message faster - on the lock screen - then whatsapp on WP. :D
