Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

I gave my Gemini to a family member who was eyeing it wistfully. I thought it was buggy and it never felt like there was any real support for alternate OSes. The keyboard was awesome but flimsy and ...

Re: Someone help convince me to keep my N900 and not sell it.

I recently downgraded to a Nokia E72. I really like the N900 but it's now a glorified alarm clock (and Freecell machine and video player and rss feed reader) okay, so maybe it's a $500 Chumby or...

Re: WebOs question

Thanks! I did a little Googling and found this page:

http://www.substanceofcode.com/

along with a few other pages that made me think I ought to give this a try. I have a little jquery and...

Re: WebOs question

I did read that they integrated Html, Javascript, etc. but wasn't sure what that meant exactly. API's that use scripting to access the system layer? I've seen how Android does it with Java, is it...

WebOs question

I'm not a developer, so I thought perhaps someone who is might have some insight into WebOs. I know that their app store started out pathetically small but there are so many nice apps for the Palm...

Re: Your all-time favorite phone

My first phone obsession was the Motorola A780. It was Linux, it was my first experience in flashing and tweaking. But it didn't have wifi :-(

Re: Fone Arena Smartphone Championship - N900 FTW!

I voted for my chunky little friend but seriously, if the Pre hadn't been released on Sprint I would have bought it the first day. I hate Sprint but I admit to standing in the mall kiosk holding the...

Re: The N900 is a mobile computer, ok, now how i convince other people?

Fortunately for me, there isn't anything to actually get from the Ovi Store for the N900 so I didn't know that part. ;-)

I think I used the Ovi Store for a game on my N79, though and don't...

Re: The N900 is a mobile computer, ok, now how i convince other people?

Both Apple and Google can wipe programs from your phone remotely. Do you have a different definition?

Now maybe there is a clean build of Android that has absolutely no links to Google code but...

Re: The N900 is a mobile computer, ok, now how i convince other people?

I don't have time to query xda-developers but last year it was definitely the case that if you didn't log in to Google, there were phone features that were not guaranteed to work. I spent a lot of...

Re: The N900 is a mobile computer, ok, now how i convince other people?

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot about Android (I have a G1 and even Nitdroid installed) but as recently as a few months back, not logging in to a Google account made your system less stable. ...

Re: The N900 is a mobile computer, ok, now how i convince other people?

IMO, the notion that the N900 is a computer is almost beside the point. As I was reading the thread, I couldn't think of anything that the N900 can run that iOS or Android can't. And both of those...

Re: Nitdroid apps on my N900. Total addictive! Whats on yours?

I just gave in and installed Nitdroid and am very impressed. It's interesting, one of the most impressive things is realizing how much work must have gone into Maemo to get by on so few hardware...

Re: will pay to have app made

Would you even need an external web server? I thought there were a few in the repositories. And I know that desktop Firefox has an add-in to create an ad hoc server.

Then you could upload a csv...

I didn't intend for my comments to make you a target, though.

As a mother who raised 4 daughters, I know that at least 2 of them would not have left their phones alone long enough for anyone to...

Web server sounds interesting - host a small database app that could be exported to contact info format.

Again, please direct negative comments to me, since I'm the one who broached the possibility.

My apologies to dns247.

Re: will pay to have app made

Please don't be rude! I'm the one who asked if that was possibly going on. The OP didn't imply this at all - I'm just a suspicious person.

Re: will pay to have app made

Sorry, it's an old school term. Back before most computers were networked, to transfer data often required one to physically walk a disk from one to the other - hence the term "sneaker" (tennis...

Re: will pay to have app made

Cant they text you and then you have the option of adding to your contacts? A text message is what - 20 cents at the most?

I'm oddly fascinated by this - not quite sure why. :-)

Actually once I re-read the request, I'm wondering you had meant to pull data from another phone surreptitiously? As a parent of adult children, I might have been tempted when they were teens, so...

Re: will pay to have app made

With the exception of the iPhone, most others have mcrosd cards. Couldn't you use the equivalent of sneaker net? (Take their card and pop it in your phone?)

I can also see a case for a Google...

w00t - you make an excellent case but in the real world I see this in most user forums (especially Dells!). With purchases of this kind, the only people who really feel your pain are likely to be in...

Re: Google Nexus One, The Phone I Should Have Bought From The Very Start.

But these threads often generate some interesting comments and questions... and assuming there really is a sibling with an N900, why not let him vent? It's disappointing to spend a bunch of money...

Re: Google Nexus One, The Phone I Should Have Bought From The Very Start.

Oh - I forgot to comment here. The alarms seem fine to me as far as going off on time but you might need to find better ringtones - the speakers don't seem very loud when deep asleep.

I do like...
