When I built mine, I cheated. I ripped from an old pc the backplane usb pieced, jumpered the two together while putting power on the power rails from a RadioShack 4AA box that had a switch on it.

On the 770, I find the speed of the browser/memory to limit the performance. With WLAN and UTMS, performance is similar.

Are you always root so it never gets hit. I also have to add the path in to get the script to work so obviously you have a relatively customized setup.
