If that was the case then why is there this option - Goto settigns then click on the bar at the top. you get 3 options drop down.
One of them is "Enter code to remove operator lock"

Yeah, save the stock setup as "stock"
then setup your settings. Then save as "myconfig"
Then set default to be "mycongfig"
.... Done

I bought one of them before, useless unless you live somewhere which uses GSM 1 sims. All providers in the UK are above.
Which means you cant copy the data out of your providers sim card to write it...

My phone has started doing something similar. Can be using it all day - 3g or GMS - connected or not and get a deceint level of pwer. Line drops quite slowly. then when it hits 20% it give a vertical...

Did you get anywhere with this? im in edinburgh too and 3G data wont work, logs in but nothing transfers. Im trying this in the gyle area on town just...
