Re: Opera vs microb
I think Opera is better. But I still use microb for some stuff. How much it zooms depends on the web page. Just use the zoom button to adjust the zooming (the volume button).

Re: N900 died - Cold Flash doesn't work
It sounds like you will need a cold flash.
I had some trouble with that last year. My notes on that follow (from another thread).
But first you should get the battery charged. If it needs cold...

Re: How important is your stylus to you?
I depend on the stylus. I use a nail for simple tasks like turning on wi-fi if I'm one-handed for some reason. But that's an exception.
Slobbing fat fingers all over the screen is disgusting to...

Re: Reading an .so file..
You can however check the .so file for interesting paths used by the code.
Simply run 'strings personal-ip-address.so' and look for interesting stuff.
I just did, and found this:
So I would...

Re: Modest email client - back-rev
Since when doesn't modest connect to an imap server? I'm only using imap, always been. Everything works. When did this stop working for you?

Re: heavy battery usage on reboot
This is a symptom of a battery starting to get old. Its inner impedance is increasing, and the reboot sucks more current out of the battery than for normal operation. What this translates to is that...

Re: How Dual Mode Works
But I wonder.. _does_ 3G eat a lot of battery? From my testing I can't really see that it does. Well, not while not in data transfer mode (i.e. not networked) anyway. If I'm just in normal phone...

.. when Meego was announced. Because it represented yet another (and even larger) turn of direction. Nothing can come out of a plan with no firm direction, you won't be able to hold on to developers...

Re: After Nokia/WP7, what will you buy next?
When my N900 eventually fails then I will drop back to a non-smartphone mobile phone. I have several options that I like.
For pocketable open mobile device I will use something else, e.g. like the...

Re: Goodbye Meego, goodbye Nokia
The only reason Nokia is partnering with Microsoft is because of Elop, who is a Microsoft guy.
Nobody else in their right mind would join with Microsoft on smartphones now, because Windows on...

Re: Goodbye MeeGo; We hardly knew ye
That's what I thought too (N900: For techy types). But then one day I saw a teenager girl using a N900 on the bus.. she seemed utterly comfortable with doing whatever it was that she did. Keyboard...

Re: 2nd generation n900
I have only two problems with the (current) N900:
1: Battery life. Having to charge sometimes every day is _not_ good.
2: The built-in GPS. Assisted GPS is just a pain in the neck. Where I need...

Re: Using the GSM as a normal modem?
But you should still be able to go the usual GPRS/EDGE/3G/3.5G route.. just go on the network, then ssh or whatever (I use OpenVPN) to your home server. It's way faster than the old GSM/Data mode...

Re: Using the GSM as a normal modem?
A typo there, you meant 19200, not 192000.. I remember being able to run at 19200 occasionally, but yes, most of the time it was down to 9600 bps. Could still do some useful work over that link...

Re: Using the GSM as a normal modem?
It used to be possible in the past, there was a 'data' mode in GSM and you could set your phone to data mode and connect to an ordinary modem. But I believe that mode isn't available in GSM anymore...

Re: rdate: Set time from timeserver [ANNOUNCE]
Well, I never installed rdate into a repo. I haven't seen if anyone else did. BTW the rdate I attached in the first posting installs OK also on Maemo5. I'm using it to adjust the time of my N900,...
