Re: Who is still interested in Neo900?
As someone who sold their Jolla two years ago in favour of a 6310i (whilst picking up a GS4 Mini for non-phone duties), I can only envision a completion of this project if they abandon N900 hardware....

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
The entry price for the board would be insurmountable for me to set aside for a project with this much drama. Denying the vagueness of the version of interest implied on the original donation page is...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
Why? You only make yourself feel worse...if there was any perceived disdain in post #2951 it's because I find your posts incredibly difficult to read and process. You don't need so many line breaks,...

Re: Purism Librem Phone
That crowdfunding campaign reeks of amateur marketing techniques that backfire on themselves, it doesn't give readers the confidence that Purism can deliver on their promises, and therefore I don't...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
Mate, you completely missed the point. Cool, you crafted a replacement chassis piece for a N900 out of some exotic material. I'm talking about the 'full house': the rubberised plastic back cover, the...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
There's more than that, there's the 1GHz processor which is...good enough, and there's LTE capability on top of that. And it's about as libre as mobile hardware can get, with the baseband firmware...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
I have since learned that mer is apparently not the best option, due to being unmaintained and with old packages. I would port OBSD to GTA04 if I could, but I have no Freerunner. As long as the...

Re: interesting Neo900 audio thoughts/ideas
I thought the whole point of this project was to avoid binary blobs that ran in the OS, and network firmware that communicated with the CPU. Are you saying that the soundcard needs binary firmware to...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
Mate, up until Marshmallow, Android could run on 512MB RAM. That's less than the latest version of iOS was compiled for at that point. It's gapps that bogs down the system. Yes, there are countless...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
Fremantle isn't completely open source though, and probably never will be. Android won the battle for developer participation, which means it has had almost a decade's worth of spit, polish and...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900
If I decided to acquire a neo900 board for myself (I'd obtain an N900 chassis in adv., of course), I would be perfectly happy running a FOSS Android ROM, perhaps Replicant, sans gapps. It would be...

Re: [WTB] Keira black TOH
I got a new one because I was stupid enough to peel off the ambiance sticker on the back, thinking that the pins on the back of the Jolla weren't picking it up and I had to move it. Later I realised...

Re: [WTB] Keira black TOH
I got one from the Jolla shop last month. If you keep an eye on them regularly they can still be had but their stocks don't last.

Re: If Jolla servers shut down...
Losing the repos and store isn't too big a deal as many apps have Github pages and/or are also available on Openrepos. I have made a list of all the apps I've got, with their related links elsewhere,...

...how will brand new devices be updated to the latest OS version?
I bring this up, as Microsoft recently shutdown the servers for OTA updates for Symbian devices. Fortunately it is not too huge...

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet
Techcrunch got it very wrong. Mozilla aren't discontinuing Firefox OS for phones, they are just refocusing the platform on other device categories (e.g smart TVs).

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet
I'm sitting here feeling smug that I own a Jolla phone but I never ordered a Tablet. I smelt a rat when it came out on pre-order and I wanted to wait until the company started shipping them. But now...
