Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Hi
i installed Mobile hotspot and its working well. Today i uninstall it and it get uninstalled. After that i restart my mobile and now it not entering, a penguin pic comes and few text and at last line it shows loading kernel... and it get reboot again and again. But previously with Mobile hotspot after showing the loading kernel the mobile enters smoothly. I dont know wat happened, anybody please help to recover from it. Also 1 important thing my n900 usb port get damaged and i just soldered the power connections from the port for charging. So i can only charge the mobile through the port and i cant use it for USB. I am using the wifi for file transfer. So i cant even reflash the mobile Even i try the command "run noloboot" the same thing happens. Anybody help please.:( Binu |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
sorry to say it but usikng custom kernel when not being able to reflash the phone is a very bad idea.
you could try hooking to the serial console (under the battery, check the wiki for the pins) and see if you can load minimal set of modules or at least see the messages (remember that the console uses 5v logic so you need a level shifter or "ftdi breakout cable") |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Well, I suppose if you've already soldered down the power connections, you could always go back and resolder the D+ and D- connections too on the USB port.
If the traces themselves have lifted and are gone now from the original USB footprint, you might be able to use the info from http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_Hardware_Hacking#Debug_ports and solder the D+ and D- pins to your new USB port. Good luck! |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Use those instructions to boot stock kernel (follow exactly).
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=30 When in maemo, reinstall kernel you want to use (either power kernel or stock kernel). And as already suggested: really don't install anything until you get the usb port fixed. You are bound to get your device non working. |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Thanks friends for your replies especially @thecubed for pointing out the USB pads on the board for easy soldering the data lines to the port.
May i know the use for ID pin in the connector. Is it needed for flashing the mobile? Since its hard to solder this pin to the component on the board. |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
It looks like according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univers...cal_appearance) the ID pin can be left unconnected. The only use for that would be for USB OTG.. I wonder if I can find where the ID pin is normally connected on the schematics...
Flashing the phone should be easy once you get the D+ and D- lines soldered down. Take pictures! :) Other people may be interested in this too if their USB connector breaks later on down the line when the warranty expires. If mine broke and I had to resolder it, I'd probably use a miniusb plug, since almost everything I have is miniusb. Once again, good luck! |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Thanks thecubed, i connected the data- and data+ to the solder pad and press the u and connect it to the PC, but still i can only see the U-boot screen.
Then starting kernel.. reboots again i cant find any hardware found on the PC, still trying here Sure i will take pics. |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
First things first: are you sure you have the D+ and D- pins connected in the right order?
Second, make sure you have the right pins soldered. The ASCII diagram that is in the wiki was kind of ambiguous to me, until I looked closer at a pic of the phone with the battery off. http://cpkb.org/images/9/99/Nokia_n900_pinout.jpg In this photo, you see the pinouts for the serial and Mbus port, but the USB pins are actually under the text "BSP" in the photo. Left is D+, right is D-. To make sure you have all that connected right, hold U on the keyboard and plug in USB while the phone is off, then try turning it on while still holding U... if you're on windows, check the device manager- you may need a driver before you can reflash. If you're in linux, try running 'lsusb' and checking if the device shows up in the list. If all that doesn't work, I'd suspect that it's either a soldering error or something that I wouldn't be able to tell without a few photos of the device. |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Got it thecubed, i successfully flashed the mobile.
The ground line was opened before, after fixing the ground i flashed it. Thank you all my friends who support me to make my n900 back. :) |
Re: Mobile hotspot make my mobile into brick
Excellent! Great to hear!
I almost wonder if I should consider making a PCB with some pogo pins on it to connect to the USB and charging pins for the people with broken USB ports... Would anyone be interested in such a thing (provided it is possible, of course)? Ideas, ideas... :) |
