Nokia SDK 1.0 Rocks

Well Well:D:D

The new Nokia SDK changes everything as far as developing for modern Nokia devices is concerned. Here are the highlights

1. No need to mess around with Scratchbox
2.Deploy to a device simulator including N900, Symbian touch, Symbian non Touch
3.Deploy/Debug direct to your device over wifi
4.Generates debs and sis files for you
5.Deploy direct to the Ovi Store soon.
6. Use QML or C++
7. Runs on Linux Windows and Mac

This changes the whole deb vs rpm for Meego, cause now I dont need to worry about packaging anymore if Nokia deliver an RPM option for Meego devices in the future

here is screenie from my Open SUSE dev box.

I was mucking about with it last night and have to say I am well impressed with it.

Only negative point is there is no Symbian emulator for the Linux version.
However Nokia host a "remote emulator". As far as I know you upload your source files to the emulator and it will run it for you.

Are there any differences to the beta that was released a while back?

Yeah, Forum Nokia hosts the "remote device access" service.

Easiest way now, though, is to use remote compiler (installable feature in NQS 1.0) to make a .sis package and try it on Symbian device.

Bugfixes, features and the license to complain basically.

Yes, it is very good indeed!
I also used Nokia Qt SDK to develop Sticky Notes.

Although Qt Creator has a flawed solution for packaging, so I have to use MADDE for that.

BTW, the Qt Creator guys said that it is the top item for their current schedule, so we should expect to see it soon.

The first one, bugfixes, is great news as I found the beta really frustrating at times. To the point I just closed it down a day or two later and never reopened it. I hope that's fixed those issues.:)

Features intrigues me, has there been any new GUI components added?

I hope Nokia puts weight behind Qt and gives us a sdk to rival the other leading smartphone sdk. The iphone developer sitting beside loves to remark that Qt looks like something left over from Java AWT/Swing. That's harsh, ofcourse, but let's be honest they're functional but also a bit plain looking. :p Don't get me wrong, Qt sdk is a strong start, hope it continues to improve :)

I installed the beta release and i don't have the fastest internet in the world, so is it worth it to go from beta to 1.0?

Only problem I've been facing is external libraries. You have to add them manually and with SDK 1.0 the deployment includes packaging step and it doesn't work with external libraries. At least I haven't got it working.
