Anyone "jailbreaked" the N900 yet?

Maybe jailbraiking is not the correct term but I was wondering if anyone has successfully installed a regular distro on the N900? (not the easy-debian route)

Something like what Yellow Dog Linux is for PS3.

Why?

Your biggest fail would be the telephony software... or lack thereof.

This gave me a cheery laugh. :)

OrangeBox, the prison doors are wide open and there is no key. For the N900's predecessor, people have gotten (with varying degrees of success) Ubuntu, KUbuntu, Android, and Windows 3.1 running, to name a few. That's not including all the emulator options available. I am currently dual-booting my N810 to Mer, which is basically a community-controlled (not Nokia-controlled) version of the N900 Maemo software. If you watch these forums over the next year or so, I'm sure you'll see lots of people pushing the boundaries.

Doesn't jailbreak just mean that a os is modified to have some of its limitations removed?

I've jailbreaked (gained root) my n900 so many times that i can't even remember.

and why in the hell would someone want to have "regular distro"? havent seen any regular distros that could be recommended to devices like n900....

Windows 3.1? Really? And how exactly have they done that? :)

And DOSBox obviously runs Windows 3.1 natively on the N900? :)

Yep, the same way relationships and taxes work: With magic. What did you think?

The Maemo 5 "jailbreak" is called "rootsh" and it's in Extras and available as a "one-click" install from http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/rootsh/
