Holy **** - €50 to register to publish to Ovi?

So I thought I'd look into what services Nokia is offering for developers to publish to the Ovi store. 70% revenue is amazing, but then I noticed ... 50 euros just to register to publish?

That seems intensely high to me. For anyone who's an amateur developer, 50 euros is a hell of a bet.

Could be that this fee doesn't apply, or is different, for N900 users. Maybe the original cost includes the cost of getting certified?

Apple has the same thing, their SDK costs $99

That's not so bad compared to other distribution platforms:

For open source apps there's maemo.org, and if you have a quality commercial app to sell 50€ is not that much.

This could be one of the reasons why they have the €50 barrier.

Does that apply to respectd community members? Cos if so, I think we just found a use for the profits from the T shirts, mugs and keyrings...

Where's the link for this? EUR50 (USD70 atm) as a one-time fee isn't too bad. Yearly would make me start to consider. Google's is a one-time fee ($25), which is a chunk less.

That's ridiculous. Some of the best programmers I've known have been broke as hell, and some of the worst I've known have been rich kids out of college with money to burn.

In retrospect, I think it's probably more to pay for administrative overheard, and with that in mind it's not too bad at all. So I retract my outrage :D

Thanks! for some reason, all I could find was http://www.forum.nokia.com/Premium_S...aunchpad.xhtml

and EUR300/year isn't quite the same as EUR50 one-time. ;)
