Scripting for N900/Maemo5 apps

Looking for a guide on scripting for Maemo5 apps.
Specifically I want to change an app run in a console window for the Pebble smart watch(Maebble) to one started and stopped in the notification area like battery or wifi settings.

Here is a main guide that I found years ago.

Here you can see some C examples for hildon-desktop (i.e. status menu widget).
Here is the same but for python.

These are all I'm aware of; there could be more guide on the web.

I recall that there was a way to assemble it all in a script, I think the py examples might be what I recalled.

Hmm... I don't really know or understand what you would like to achieve, so... Sure you can use a simple python script but you will also need a .desktop file if you want that thing to appear in the top bar and/or more info/button if you tap on that top bar (as you said - like battery, clock/alarm, availability, etc.).

Thanks for mentioning this. I was about to suggest it, too. QueenBeeCon's a particularly powerful tool for creating useful scripts, widgets, gadgets, whatever for the N900. E.g. I used it to monitor dbus messages and speak the text of incoming SMSs and also my "help I've been kidnapped by aliens" panic button.
