Re: newbie

skype should exists on the "availability"
touch the middle maemo desktop (3g/2g bar)
then press on availability

you will see skype there.

Re: newbie

Skype is there, it's just integrated into the User Interface. There's no "Skype Application" by itself.

Go to Availability as described by tirtawn, the click on Accounts. Click "New", and then select Skype. You will be guided to register an account if you don't already have one, or log-in if you do.

Facebook chat: you have to setup facebook to unify your account, means facebook.com/<yourname> (free to pick any name)
then the login is <yourname>@chat.facebook.com
password is your facebook password

works for me with pr1.2 built in facebook chat and if I set it up as jabber account

If you bought the phone from India, there won't be any Skype integrated with it. You would need to reflash the firmware to the Global version to get Skype as Nokia wanted to play safe with regulation in India (There are regulatory issues as Skype encrypts calls and Indian intelligence agencies don't like calls that they can't eavesdrop on)
