Big Update: Version 3.0 is here

This version features a new simplified UI based upon the design by pico player to show up with an overview of local videos by default.
The youtube search is now native and uses ytdl by default to show search results. You don't need any API key. Basing on ytdl makes the search a bit slower than the website and the website is still available via "Show website" pulley menu but will end its SailfishOS support on the 22nd of October when Youtube will disable its support for the old QtWebkit engine used by SailfishOS.
Added is Jupii support which allows sharing a video to UPnP Media Players like TVs and other. (You need jupii installed)

Update: Version 3.0.1 is out.

A small bugfix release with all bugs fixed that were reported for the 3.0 release

Changes:

• Fix humbnails not updating on FirstPage
• Fix label padding for long texts in history and bookmarks page
• Fix padding for ytsearchresultitems so channel name aligns with title
• Don't allow interaction with the app when busy is running
• Show 'Load More' in ytSearchResultsPage only if results are loaded
• Fix time overlapping quality btn
• Add python dependency
• Add 'Loading Youtube results' message and abort button for search
• Some cleanup
• Updated chinese translation

Nice, it works.
Am I understanding this correctly: it uses YT's mobile web ui to search for videos? It can then optionally use youtube-dl to watch one of the search results?

I would love to be able to use a native search instead; it isn't so hard to extract the page URLs (to pass on to youtube-dl).
I am currently using a python script for this. Apparently youtube-dl is also able to search, and has python libraries so that it can be used in python scripts.
So this is a tentative. non-complaining feature request I guess...
Also the YT web ui is warning me to upgrade to Android 4.0 :(

Another thing:
I tried a DVD rip in .MKV format, and the player does not recognize the integrated VobSub subtitles?

The youtube search is native and uses youtube-dls search method.
The webui version is legacy and yeah like stated it will tell you to upgrade as the old qtwebkit version in SailfishOS will not allow you to see the newer version.

My player uses QtMultimedia which uses Gstreamer underneath. There is no implementation for supporting embedded subtitles in those.

The UI now looks very different from what it looked like when I first installed LLs video player.
Strange, maybe I accidentally installed an old version. I feel stupid.

Before, the main window had iirc 6 square tiles, one of them was "Search youtube" and brought me to the mobile web interface.

Now, it looks like this and the version is 3.0.2-1. That's OK then I guess.

May I ask what the top search bar is supposed to search for? It does not directly search YT afaics?
If I tap "Search on Youtube" first I can enter search terms, and that works as expected.

I don't much watch movies on my phone anyhow, the YT functionality is the most important thing for me.

I am very grateful for this app, please don't mistake my critique for complaining!

Update: 3.0.3 out now.

Fixes the issue with ytdl not showing search results.
Notice: Due to the dmca takedown of ytdl currently the update function will not work. However newer versions shipped with my player will update ytdl if newer.
