No, of course not. But that's not a design flaw (which I consider a proprietary design to be), but just a matter of progress of time.
I too feel the limitations of the old hardware, probably even more than the lack of openness, but since that's not a design flaw it doesn't upset me.

What upsets me is the fact that for fixing the non-design flaw of old hardware by replacing it with newer hardware I still have to accept the actual design flaw of unnecessary closedness.
I'm not willing to pay for that design flaw (again).

In the past I've set up my older Galaxy Note to show phone screen on a monitor. Including running linux on android app with which I used ubuntu and fedora. So I could run a full linux distribution on phone and use a monitor. But the main problem was that the sound was always lousy. Presumably linux on galaxy will not have this issue.

That is very cool but how it is differ from chroot-ing a linux image on n900...? Sorry for my stupidity but... you know, for me chroot on n900 is working for years now and this is like Samsung reinventing the wheel... (OK, current kernel and other stuff...)

In addition, on most android devices, unless you were ok with just using a terminal, if you wanted a desktop environment you need to do it via a vnc client using some app. Also, sound was poor or not possible. Maybe that was not the case for N900.

One more thing. The Huawei Mate 10 also makes a desktop environment when you connect to a monitor using a usb c to hdmi cable. Only the desktop environment is Android. So you can run all your phones apps if you like (including phone). Also phone screen can act like a mouse. Or use bluetooth mouse and/or keyboard. In principle you could chroot your favourite linux version on the Mate 10 if you needed that functionality.

Yes, I'm aware of that and this is the cool part; but they are acting like "reinventing the wheel" as if it would be such a new feature. Like when android phones got raw capability... n900 has that years before that...
