maemo-mapper: driving me crazy:-)

hello,

in my opinion there is a lack of a complete mapping/routing app on
the n900, but thats another story. maybe navit will be the solution
i am looking for, nevertheless i ask the following:

i saw fragos doc on maemo-mapper but i was not able to manage
to download all maps for a certain area. "managing maps" does
not work as " ..you must set a valid database filename ..." and
the database thing seems to be broken on maemo 5, right?
"managing repositories" isnt easy as some text is cutted on the
device.

the best solution would be to download the needed maps from my
pc and copy them to the n900 with a script.

can someone help out?

thanx,
blues

I think the directory that it points to by default is not present, and you have to create it. I am not sure, and checking my N900 won't be a good test because I might have fixed it there already.

With an Internet connection maps are downloaded when you view that area with Maemo Mapper. For example zooming out will load map data for the area now covered by the screen. This is the easiest way I've found to load maps. The one map source which should always work is Open Streets as others like Google have on occasion changed the URL for their maps. I'm an N810 owner so I'm unsure of any differences that have worked their way in for Maemo 5 and the N900.

poi.db --> Points of interest, not the realy map tiles.

Check the settings *from inside Maemo Mapper*. I think I remember that the directory didn't exist, or pointed to directory name that made sense on the N810, or something like that.

apparently the mapper is broken.

tried with straight typing the filename to settings and doing the same with file dialog. Mapper doesn't create the file at all. map is shown though so I quess it is saved somewhere but I have no idea where...

The location for each map type is set "Maps"-> "Manage Repositories".

I have the same problem. Have tried many different paths and places to save. Though the "Compact..." button will create the file (under manage repositories), but it will not grow from 1kb

Also adding the NLS repository will make the maemo mapper go to a state that after starting it it will just flash in the screen and then crash.

yes, and it doesn't work. nice, my NLS -repo has been removed (and google repos etc) overnigh or because of the crashing issue and command I pasted above.

Yes, I've done that but after adding NLS again, the problem comes again.
