Where can I get #1? I heavily use AIM messenger and I want something solid, yet fluid enough to work well integrated and won't danger my phone.

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

If you don't have an unlimited data plane like t-mobile. I'd say Dataplan Monitor is a must.

fmms if people like sending you mms

for anime watchers/ and media heads with rare formats: mplayer/sib/Extra Decoders Support

EvoXLover 2010-01-23 05:55

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

I was on a Sidekick unlimited data/text. Now I'm on their T-Mobile Smartphone plan, unlimited data/text. Bring it! what programs do I need?

unkno 2010-01-23 09:03

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

-Conversations Inbox Desktop Widget (technically not an app though)
-AlmostTI Graphing Calc
-rootsh (only if you know what you're doing...)
-Flashlight
-Cpumem-applet (or load applet if you want to easily screenshot and sreencast)

torpedo48 2010-01-23 09:17

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

If you frequently use X-Term, then Rootsh is the first must-have you'll need.

If you like modding your N900 (e.g. changing LED colours, battery icons, etc...) then OpenSSH will be useful.

If you want to play with your N900, VGBA and ScummVM should be your first choices.

And, of course, some utilities you'll find helpful:
-Flashlight
-Cpumem-applet
-Leafpad
-Copernicium (for Chemistry)
-OMWeather
-Maep

angry bird game :)

Brank 2010-01-23 11:14

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

This is my list. I won't add any modding tools. Just apps.

angry birds from ovi store is an awesome game.

camkeyd so that you can go to applications running view by pressing camera button half way.

Cellular Modem control buttons so you can turn phone options off if you're in a airplane for example.

eCoach is really nice if you enjoy doing outdoor walks. Takes in a lot of data about your route.

Eggtimer is ok if you often forget stuff in the oven for too long, easy to use.

Electric beams (free from ovi) is a pretty funny game, although it only shows 10 levels, but when you complete level 10 it'll give you level 11, but if you close the app you'll have to complete level 10 again.

fapn/fmms even though I think mms is old technology, a lot of people keep sending me mms all the time, so a must have for me.

Flashlight is a cool bit of kit when in the dark. you open cam cover and put flashlight on from taskbar.

gFTP for a graphical ftp client.

Hermes (awesome app) automatically gets pictures for your contacts. Great feature. Nokia should implement this in to their own systems. All credit to creator.

Petrovich to send items from your N900 by email or other services easily.

Pidgin protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts, Awesome application as it lets you use MSN, ICQ, AIM and many others on your basic N900 messaging client! Also brings contacts from them to your phonebook, and you can merge them if you have duplicates.

rdesktop is an awesome bit of kit that allows you to connect to your computer and allowes you to have the power of a PC in your pocket. very useful.

wormux worms game. works ok, but not that good fps. but can play over network with someone else.

xploder is an ok game from ovi store.

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

Petrovich and Hermes are great. Angry Birds is entertaining, Extra codecs support has been useful.

Also just discovered Vegalume for last.fm and or libre.fm streaming - work just great for me at the moment, although some people seem to be having issues here

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

I think if you guys are talking about the REALLY important apps,

then first and foremost is the PETROVICH
it allows you to transfer music via bluetooth which you cannot find otherwise.

2. You might wanna additionally add apps like hermes, pidgin internet, brightlight, fbreader, fAPN and stuff like that.

but yeah, as far as i know...

petrovich is one thing you absolutely should be having..

and guys do let me know if there is something which can help make those credit checking calls i.e *102#

believe me, N900 is the best nokia gives.

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

Many good apps mentioned allready, so here's my list of musthaves not yet mentioned:

1: Vultures Eye (package name is vultures), The game of nethack with an isometric graphical interface. (I'd actually prefer the non-isometric nethack that I have on the n800)

2: ...well that's all the must haves, but I'm eagerly awaiting to have the games Freeciv and Wesnoth in extras-testing.

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

I have a problem with the term "must have". if i must have something it doesn't mean you must have it too. Except death.

If you must have an app another person must have, do you really have to have it? Do you really use it like the person who must have it?

If you must check out the N900's capabilities, just have a look at the repositories, they're all "must have" apps in some way. It's not as if we have 20,000 Android apps to chose from. It depends on the person and usage habits.

Re: what are must have apps for n900?

How and where do you get these apps? I went to app.manager -> Download -> all. Then did a search for an app but search didn't find anything. Am I looking in the wrong place? What repos I need to add? Do I need to register in OVI Store to download the apps?
