Will we see microsoft office application on the n900? We know that microsoft have a partnership to bring ms office to nokia phones. But will this relationship bare fruit on maemo?

Dataviz view only pre installed.
Koffice should run fine.
OpenOffice should be able to be ported/run

In my experience, DataViz >>> Microsoft Office.
This is from my Palm days, so I did not have a LOT of experience with WinMo.

i've seen a vid somewhere in youtube, where the guy actually open a pdf. as for the office stuff, i'm sure you can view those files, not so sure about the editing part. that's alright, i have faith that the developer will come up with something for the office

SEARCH, SEARCH, SEARCH.
Its not there just to fill up the space and wont cost you to hit that button, use it.
and yes N900 supports PDF out of box and documents to go is preinstalled in the device.

Documents To Go this is a application which will let you open office files to view and if you want to edit you get 30 days free trial and then you have to buy it. and this application is preinstalled.

Better reading the official website than watching videos and commercials :-)
N900 spec says "Applications: PDF reader". And Documents To Go (Viewer Edition) is also available.

They don't list N900 yet on their website, for Android devices it seems to be free "Documents To Go 2.0 is FREE for all Android-powered handsets", but "Documents To Go for Symbian Series 80 - $29.99".

http://www.dataviz.com/products/docu...ogo/index.html

So not sure what it will be for N900.

Because OO.o is too bloated and not optimized for the Maemo 5 UI and HIG.

Meanwhile, Qt-based KOffice is being ported to Maemo, _and_ optimized for Maemo UI and HIG.

Apparently there's a Nokia sponsored KOffice port: http://www.kdenews.org/2009/10/13/no...mobile-devices

Edit: Um. What he said. :)

Open Office (or similar) application for N900?

Are there any Office applications available for the N900? I'd love something like Open Office for productivity on the go sans laptop.

Is it possible to zoom in on a spreadsheet using Dataviz's Documents To Go? Their website says it supports "multi-level zooming" but I don't see any way to make this happen. Anyone figure this out?

What is the status of these projects? I had a number of .xls files on mY E90 and i sorely miss them.

Has anyone successfully edited an .xls file on an N900?

If so, How?

I haven't tested it extensively yet but it's stable enough for my needs. command line only.

What office software do you use?

I think this is a topic many will find useful. I'm in need of a new free office software, to read .doc (and other office) files with as the To Go software expired.

What office software do you use, and what pros and cons have you found using it? Is it possible to edit files using it, or is it just a reader?

amarjyoti 2010-01-25 09:11

Re: What office software do you use?

FreeOffice is a wonderful office software for reading .doc,, .xls, and .ppt.
For editing doc files, use abiword.
Hope that helps.

Re: What office software do you use?

I use openoffice both on my notebook and on my n900, and both at home and at work.

I use OpenOffice at home and at work on Windows and Ubuntu.
Have not started testing OoO on my N900 yet.

Re: What office software do you use?

MS Office 2007 work and home, (was using on my last phone HTC Excalibur /TMO DASH now using DOC to Go with N900 but need to edit stuff so hope they do a premium version ) the nature of many years with biz PC's but the universal nature (i.e. being around so long most people use it) of MS Office makes things easy. N900 has some issues with office and RTF showing attachments as winmail.dat unless you use html instead.

Re: What office software do you use?

I bought the docs-to-go license (it's cheap and affordable at < $10). I don't have any need to actively edit any files, just displaying them.

Re: What office software do you use?

At this moment I am using Docs2Go.

I installed FreOffice, but it works very slow, so I uninstalled it.

In my office I am using MS Office 2007 and OpenOffice at home.

Regards.

Re: [Maemo 5] What office applications are available? Open / edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. documents?

I've had problems with docs to go viewer. Specifically, there are some word format files which aren't opened and throw an "Internal Error: 7370309" notification.
I've emailed support (having purchased the retail version) and they asked me what program/version created the files and some other obvious things.
I sent them one of the files I can't open and I'm waiting for a response.

Re: [Maemo 5] What office applications are available? Open / edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. documents?

I use Google docs in the browser, until good alternatives such as Abiword and/or KOffice appear in the extras-test repository.
You have to upload your docs, so it not really fast, but it's a very 'N900-only' way of doing things, which compensates ;)

Re: [Maemo 5] What office applications are available? Open / edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. documents?

*Bump*
Is there a "native Maemo" .xls solution in the works?

If not, is there a detailed description of how to "duel boot" Debian and to install Open Office into Dbian, and how to use Open Office from Maemo through Debian??
