Should I update on every update of fremantle?

Hello guys & girls,

I have a question and i think i am a bit justified because i am new at the community and i own for only 6 months a n900 device :D

I have the latest Maemo 5 fremantle update and before i flash my phone i had upgraded my device with CSSU (SORRY guys you are doing a great work) but i didn't liked much because i thought it isn't completed yet so i thought i must wait for another upgrade.

So i wanted to ask if i must upgrade on CSSU to make all of the apps work properly and upgrade them without libs missing or anything like that.

 The reason for asking that is because i get a lot of errors or missing packages and i saw one or two apps before where their are talking about CSSU update in order to make their apps working.

And since i started a threat i should add something more: Does anybode know if there will going to be a CSSU fremantle update and when?

Thank you in advance for your time!!!

Stable CSSU is for everybody.
It's advised to use for security and functionally, some application now depend on CSSU.

The short answer is: it depends. :)

The long answer is that yes, the CSSU is where the future is headed for the N900. Several good apps now depend on CSSU features, and if you want to use those apps, you need to use CSSU.

On the other hand, there's nothing at all wrong with using the last official Nokia release of Maemo, and the vast majority of N900 apps work perfectly well without CSSU. And, I have to admit, I still haven't moved my own N900s over to CSSU; I just haven't yet found the need...

The most active development on the N900 tends to be tied into the CSSU effort, so new updates are coming out all the time...

Thanks! I'm starting to get back on my feet, so to speak. (And hopefully start putting out updates once again...)

Thanks for the heads-up! There's definitely more reason than ever to become a CSSU user. I hope to have at least one machine on CSSU soon. Still, I'd love to have a little more info on what all exactly has gone into the CSSU... Time for me to start digging my way through the code again, I guess. :)

I took your advice and and just installed CSSU features :D

But after the installation completed there was some Community SSU catalogues installed such as:

Community SSU
Community SSU (testing)
Community SSU (devel)
Community SSU (thumb)

And i had and have skeiron's catalogues enabled should i replace skeiron's with the catalogues from CSSU or have they the same updates?

I think you are completely confused.

I said "Stable CSSU"

testing, devel and thumb are completely different.

You should only have catalogues:-

Nokia SSU
Maemo.org Extras
and Community SSU* (See below)

Any other repository is not recommended if you don't understand.

Also the mirrors are no longer required.

CSSU Features is a separate package that allows you to change the settings of CSSU without Terminal. Having "CSSU Features" doesn't mean you have CSSU.

The only way to install CSSU is via:-

http://repository.maemo.org/communit...mantle.install

* Clicking on the above link with your device will install the Community SSU repository.

If you want to start again (recommended) see the following guide.

The thing is that i installed the CSSU stable from the:

http://wiki.maemo.org/CSSU

and not the CSSU Testing but after the reboot i had some updates for the CSSU i continued the install and after the reboot i had the catalogues i mentioned.

Now the version i have is 21.2011.38-1 Tmaemo7.2+thumb0
Flavor:Testing :(

Could those updates be because i had the skeiron catalogues enabled?

Sorry for the "CSSU features" wrong expression!!!
And by the way i was not aware of the default catalogues was enalbed thx ;)

I think its not worth to reflash the device again, or is it ?
