New N900, some questions

Hello all.
I've recently discovered the classic Nokia N900 after winning one in an online auction.
I love classic phones, especially the sliding keyboard types.

Having spent the last few weeks tinkering with it I've managed to figure out a load of stuff, though there are a few things that are eluding me.

I've been trying to figure out how to get messages/conversations into portrait mode.
I've searched online and here many times and so far I've used various methods including CSSU, conversation mod and FastSms.
I can get nearly everything into portrait apart from messaging, even with forced portrait mode.

Also, is there a viable use for the infrared port?
Can't seem to find anything useful on any of the repositories, though they are kinda old now.

Messaging will go into portrait mode with just CSSU.
It's possible that may require "forcedrotation" to be on which you can read about in the CSSU wiki.

The IR can be used to transmit anything via IR, a common use is a universal TV reemote, there are a couple of projects that use it. Peirogi and others that are based on LIRC as examples.

Thank you for the response and info about IR.

I already have forced rotation turned on in CSSU.
It works for everything apart from conversations.
Even the desktop rotates and looks weird, but it works.
The fastsms keyboard rotates fine but the messages app won't shift.

I'm about one step away from dropping the new shiny android for this thing, there's just something about it I can't put it down 😁

As I say I know it works fine for me. It's been many years since I messed about with this. But the wiki cssu wiki on transistions.ini maybe the key. Unless some of your other packages you have installed are causing the issue.
