I doubt that they lost. It's more likely that they figured out that they can still record all of your activity offline and then upload it automatically to their servers when you eventually connect to the internet.

I've not tried it yet but as I understand their implementation it only uses offline mode if there is no network. It's not a choice like in Here or Komoot where you can switch it to offline mode in the app.

That's better than nothing. With a good firewall your device may act like it is offline for that app only and online for everything else ;)

(Disclaimer: Not sure if such a firewll exists.)
