New member, i have questions.

Hi all. I found this forum while looking for information about my n810. I love it so much that I bought a 770. I am trying to find the update wizard, but all of the links are dead. I appreciate any help you can give, and I can't wait to see what the 770 can do. Thanks for any help!

Re: New member, i have questions.

That won't work anymore as the Nokia servers are no more.
You can find copy of the firmwares here to flash.

Re: New member, i have questions.

Thanks for the reply. I down loaded all of the files for each os edition. My problem now is what to do with them. I am running Windows xp. I have connected the 770, and can explore the memory card. I have no idea what to do next.
I searched the boards, and saw the YouTube video. They all say to use the wizard.
Help?

Re: New member, i have questions.

the nokia update wiz should work with the 770.
It is probably the single easiest method (using windows) to flash the firmware for the 770 n800 and n810.
Of course the servers have been defunct.
Regardless it still works for flashing the firmware.
I have used it.... use it still...
Where you will find a copy nowadays?
I think papywizard still has a functioning link ...
though I have not checked it in some months now...
I would suggest if you cannot find it there (and really look please)
then I am sure in my n8x0 walkthrough I mention where it can be found.
I would suggest exhausting those options first.
Failing all that ..
(and I mean really failing ...I am purdy busy at this exact moment...)
...pm me.
But only in the direst circumstance when all hope is lost please...
frivolous pm-ing me (though normally very chatty :D) ...
at the moment will not impress me.....
read the walkthrough I am sure it is there.

ach .... couldn't help it...
had to see...
here this page should help you ..especially in ref. to what to do...
I do know that if you wish the 2008 hacker edition (if mem. serves it wasn't quite finished and polished...vague fuzzy recall.) even the 2007 H.E. needed to be installed differently (I think .l remem. but don't quote me on my mind recalling 10 yr old data..)
The wiz wouldn't do for the H.E. versions I believe...
Standard official firmware can be installed easily with the wiz.though THAT I do remember...
This page should help...
read ..
read
read

http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/...d_on_Nokia_770

Just finished reading... took me back to the good old days it did....
and I am quasi wrong... the 2007 HE should work with the wiz.
2008 HE is a different matter though. But it was half baked .... not finished... so 2008 HE is just something to putter with in my opinion...not meant for daily on the 770...too much was wonky with that version if I remember...

Re: New member, i have questions.

Anyway... 'nuff of all the technicmicals ....

so maverick.... you got yourself a n810 eh?
hehe.... yeah it was the perfect form factor device built ...
in my opinion...
built well.. like a tank... solid... great screen real estate... great keyboard size...backlit... sigh... yup
No one makes anything like it now....
Frankly I would love to cram modern guts in one of mine...
the perfect device for it.
literally...
Best device I ever owned....
second is my n800's
no keyboard... but 2 sd card slots...
allows for a lot of experimentation...
a lot of tinkering.

you know what I mean...
only people who have had an n810 in their hands ...
know what I'm sayin'

Re: New member, i have questions.

i am still stuck, i followed the directions from the wiki page here

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

i downloaded the flasher from the page itself,

http://www.jedge.com/n810/flasher/

downloaded the files from

http://harrygonzalez.me/mirror/N770/Firmwares/

ran the flasher, inserted
flasher-3.5.exe -F SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2008.7-1_PR_F5_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

and received......nothing

also checked out the papywizard link. no luck

I think you now have enough "thanks" to private message me... if you need more.... get those "thanks" ...
and contact me.
We'll get you sorted out.

Re: New member, i have questions.

It's not the number of thanks that opens the gate. It's the number of posts. You need at least 5. Not in the Off-Topic section, those posts literally don't count.

Re: New member, i have questions.

Thank-you all for the support! I was away on vacation, and saw a n800. I am now the proud owner of 3 Nokia tablets! I am enjoying all of the features of each, and now I have a hard time choosing which one to play with.
While on vacation, in the hotel, my 770 was able to get online. Slow, but really neat. Never got that far on my home network.

Re: New member, i have questions.

I would suggest getting a couple of cards... at least an 8gb for the internal slot and a 32gb for the external slot on your n800...
go to my signature and head to "Pimp my n8x0"
ramp up your n800 ...
clone a pristine untouched diablo to the internal sd card...
get diablo turbo and all the bells and whistles running...on the card..
then you should be good to go...
You can do the same to your n810 to the external card slot as well.
the benefits from upgrading the stock os and cloning to card ...
are manifold.
you will find the system snappier, quicker, and will result in less wear on the onboard.... and much more bulletproof...
the walkthrough appears long...
but in reality once you do it a few times...
you will find it is actually very quick and painless process.

Re: New member, i have questions.

Thanks endsormeans! I actually had your signature in mind when I first stumbled upon this sight. I will take your advice and purchase the memory cards. I already have some 128mb rs-mmc cards for the 770 on its way from China. Looking forward to pimping out my Nokias!

Re: New member, i have questions.

yeah ..they may not be as slick and flashy as new stuff out there now...
But what does run for them... runs. and for the most part runs real good...and has been running for almost a decade now...
There is a simplicity, elegance and charm to them...
just can't get enough of them...
and of course their putter-ability :D
lot of fun they are...
anyway have fun man....

endsormeans 2016-08-10 05:22

Re: New member, i have questions.

128 mb card? I do hope that is what you mean and not 128 gb cards...
the 128gb cards I consider non-optimal....
I would suggest sticking with 32gb max with the n8x0's ...
they tend to be less problematic. and more reliable.

...says the creator of this thread ;)

I am more concerned with this bit:

I would be extremely careful with ordering anything even slightly over the bog standard from China, or indeed anywhere else that is not local to you. I have seen far too many fake high capacity cards that pretend to be 64, 128 or even 256 GB but are in reality only 2 GB.

If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.

endsormeans 2016-08-10 09:06

Re: New member, i have questions.

concerning the chinese cards ....agreed.
concerning the nature of having 128 gb cards in your n8x0...
I messed with it a lot...
it is a lot of time taken...
it takes a great deal of time for a n8x0 to deal with that much space considering the device's horsepower...
remember it is comparable to a pentium 2 in guts...
media scanning ...for example....will take a bit for cards so big...
it is do-able...
but after playing extensively ...
it just doesn't feel practical...

maverick106 2016-08-11 19:56

Re: New member, i have questions.

Nah, guys auto correct put "gb" instead of "mb". They should be 128mb. Sorry for the confusion.
As for my new toys, I know that technology had moved on to "new and better" things. I find older stuff doesn't really mean useless. It's finding ways to use them so that you can enjoy them. It's that innocent charm that they have that makes me want to know more about them. I keep finding myself interested in just past use things. Palm and pocket pc pdas, etc. I never truly am cutting edge. This is also a disadvantage of finding things like rs-mmc cards. They are not commonly found where I live. So, for the love of all things retro, I have to go where parts are.

Re: New member, i have questions.

Update time. I found the windows firmware updater on the n800 thread. I flashed different HE os, and settled on 2007HE. I could not get the sound working on 2008HE. I know about the issue, and I might look into it later. Thanks for all of your support and help!
