N900 + Google Latitude

My gf sent me an email request to accept her Google Lattitude invitation. Its the program that lets you see the location of your Google LAattitude friends on a map.

However when I click the link in the email, nothing happened. it takes me to my iGoogle homepage but when i click the Google Lattitude application nothing happens.

Can somebody tell me how to use Google Lattitude with the N900?

Google hasn't ported Google Maps to the N900. As far as I am aware the only otheer way to provide your position is to log into your Google account and try to get the latitude widget to report your position in the same manner as you would from a desktop.

There was a thread talking about hacking the iPhone URL's to do this more accurately using your GPS position but I didn't see a simpler way of doing so.

Read this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...9&postcount=59

I'm in the process of writing an automatic Google Latitude updater (i.e. a daemon which updates your location at whatever interval you choose).

The web page in the link above could do with some tweaking, as panning and zooming-in require the mouse pointer to be made visible (flick onto page from left-hand side), but I can't see how to zoom out.

@lardman

any chance to have that updater to work from CLI
as shell script, to get maemaps to work with (so called geolocation
for 770, 800, 810 ) ?

It looks like running mm can generate last long/lat fix data
accessible via CLI, as NMEA sentences parsing, GPS fix flagging
is already done.

Hi.... look googlelatitude on extras-devel....
A manual updater + a webkit gui to view friend...

the next step, integrate liblocation or similar...
next step, make a automatic updater
next step, make a daemon ( without gui )

you can help me (http://googlelatitude.garage.maemo.org/) or i can help you....

Sure, either is fine by me.

I just thought a daemon would be better than having a visible app running all the time. Plus your app pulls in quite a lot MB's worth of deps.

Re: N900 + Google Lattitude

Here's what I've done so far (unfinished!): http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/nokia770/latitude/

It consists of a daemon called latituded and a control panel applet to change the settings.

I hadn't quite decided how to handle the case of the use wanting to connect then disconnect at certain intervals, also have not added in the update code (which you obviously have in your app). Applet is also not finished.

If people think this is a reasonable way to go, please feel free to hack at this and/or combine it into the Garage project (though I'd still be very tempted to get rid of the heavy deps and just stick to a basic GTK+ control panel/ui for the time being)

This is AMAZING!!!!

Sure, I have to load up another app to activate the GPS lock on, and the Latitude dialog's password screen doesn't interpret numbers (had to copy and past my number filled password from another app to log on), but this is GREAT!!!!

Hell, the webkit portion is almost a fully functional Google Maps replacement!! Why isn't this app on the front page of internettablettalk.com every day???

Is there a way to zoom in/out in the map view?

Seriously awesome:

Latitute update and friends map view with all the gmaps latitutude friend contact options? Check!

Google Maps with layers? Check!

Gmaps search w/ inline results? Check!

Gmaps directions? Check!

I LOVE this app!!!!!

Hmm, perhaps it's changed since I last looked at it in that case, the last I saw was just a dialog into which you can type your location and send it to be updated.

Downloading again to take a look :)

Ah, I probably just missed the maps menu item first time through, so my fault entirely
