unable to install advanced-power

A few weeks ago I tried to install "advanced-power," and "advanced-power-monitor" and got the response "unable to install." However, it showed up in the Installed Applications section with an exclamation mark. Then I tried to uninstall the programs and it wouldn't let me. Now the battery notifier randomly highlights and displays the battery information, and it is very annoying. Any advice?

Re: unable to install advanced-power

Doing a bit more searching, I found this post on my topic (except that I was never able to even fully install the program): http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=24905&page=2#15

I tried following these steps, but the problem persists. Is there a way to manually delete these files? I found a advanced-power-monitor.list file in /var/lib/dpkg/info that list a bunch of files. If I delete these, is the program "uninstalled"? Is there a way to remove a program and circumventing the application manager? I also tried sudo apt-get remove, which also gave me an error:

Quote:

Removing advanced-power-monitor ...
invoke-rc.d: not a symlink: "/etc/rc2.d/S50apmd"
invoke-rc.d: dangling symlink: "/etc/rc2.d/S50apmd"
dpkg: error processing advanced-power-monitor (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 102
Errors were encountered while processing:
advanced-power-monitor
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Finally, I have even tried to restore my tablet to an old back-up I have but the program persists.

Ii want to see if anyone has any other options before I just give up and flash the thing.

Thanks.

Re: unable to install advanced-power

xterm
sudo gainroot
dpkg --purge "apps" (without the quote)
That should get you uninstall the apps

xterm
sudo gainroot
apt-get install adv...monitor (put in the name of the apps, i remember you have to do monitor 1st)
apt-get install adv...power

where is your back-up? :)

post results please,

bun

It gave me a similar response to when I tried apt-get remove:

I think the back-up file is saved on the internal memory card. Also, maybe this problem is because I tried to install advanced-power first and not advanced-power-monitor

Re: unable to install advanced-power

Lately, I've been having problems with openssh, openssh-server, and openvpn. So I decided to reinstall, but the application manager wont let me, and I can't remove it even with the terminal commands. the messages I get are very similar to what I got before with the advanced power app, but obviously I've already changed the invoke-rc.d file (I double checked to make sure the file had not reverted or anything). Also, I cannot uninstall openbox, which seems somehow tied to openssh.

some specifics:
Quote:

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Re: unable to install advanced-power

Is anyone else having trouble installing the latest update for the advanced power application?

I've been using the advanced power application for a while and recently updated to the latest version v0.5.0-5 that was released on 23rd October.

Now it has broken as the advanced power application icon no longer appears in the status bar. I've tried toggling from off/on in control panel>panels>status bar but still no longer appears.

Can anyone help please?

The last couple of pages of this thread deal with issues that some people are having installing the latest update.

The statusbar icon not appearing seems to be a common problem.

Re: unable to install advanced-power

Also facing the same problem and get stuck trying qwerty's solution.

When i check my /usr/sbin, I have no invoke-rc.d showing.
Should I create it?

I've enabled hidden files and still don't see it.
