Too many applications running on clean flash.??

Hi, Completely wiped N900 (before passing on to someone else) with flasher by installing latest PR1.3 and Vanilla eMMC files from nokia website.

Apparently its now running really slow, and keeps saying "too many applications running, please close some before continuing" or something to that effect.

any ideas? its completely bare device!

any help appreciated

Cheers Ross.

"or something to that effect" isn't exactly findable in a search..

Never heard of such a message appearing.. However, there'd be something similar appearing in a low memory (as in RAM) situation... BUT, it's almost imposible to reach such a situayion (it becomes unusably slow long before)..

There'd be one way to trigger such a message, by turning off swap. Even in that situation it'd need widgets and crap, or launching browser, email, application manager, or other heavy apps.

So I'd check that swap is on and working.

Sorry, i hadnt the phone to write exactly what was on screen.

Says "Too many applications open. Unable to open additional applications without closing some applications"

managed to install and fire up conky (just) before it went crapo again.

with nothing running, its running 220mb ram out of the 240, and 480 out of 768 swap.

Top Total Memory....
tracker-indexer 108M ram / 585M VM - WTF?
hildon-desktop 8.48M ram / 50M VM

Thoughts?

May be you would like to show us a list of packages you installed up to now for our further investigation:
Code:

sudo gainroot
killall tracker-indexer

If 480M swap is in use, that's way too much. A clean system right after reboot will be below 100M, if not at 0.

Re: Too many applications running on clean flash.??

Sorry for slow response, lots on. :(

Problem is, i cant even open terminal unless i do it as soon as its fired up. listing packages is pointless, as this is a fresh eMMC and Full firmware flash. so nothing will be installed ??? ill see what it says, but i have no way to list it here as i wont be able to open the browser.

i know huge swap isnt good. but what can i do to stop it?
