Facebook chat authentication failed!!!
 

i have been unable to login to my facebook chat on my phone anymore it keeps just saying "authentication failed" if i try to re-add the account i will get the message or user name or password incorrect is there any way to fix this?

Just use chat on fMobi. It's lighter on both the battery and CPU.

Am I the only one having this problem right now? I don't usually log-in to facebook chat but now that I was supposed to use it I found that I can't log-in... anybody? Thanks!

edit: I already have libcurl3. I deleted my account on the phone thinking I can add it again but when I did it says that I have the wrong username/password... any idea? Thanks again!

edit2: Fixed my own problem. Seems like some conflict with saved passwords in MicroB (not confirmed, just a hunch because my wife borrowed my phone recently to check her facebook account). I cleared saved passwords in the browser then tried to add my facebook account and I was able to log in successfully. Hope this helps those who face similar problems. :)

I have this problem sometimes as well, both on n900 as well as on PC (linux telepathy/kde), it seems to help to enter the password again (athough I never changed it) with or without starting with upper case first letter

Please I have the same problem, I have to change my password in my facebook, but when I log on to my facebook on my N900, it says that invalid email/password combination, failed to log in. pls help,
I put codes in xterminal
apt-get install libcurl3 and its updated.
what are possible thing will I do to fix my problem.

I have the same problem here in 2015.
Few days ago Fb chat just disconnected (auth failed), and are not working since then.
I cannot re-add the account, I suspect there is another API change in Fb's side.
Any hope to get this fixed?

Strange.
I have rebooted my device, tried to auth through mobile data, wifi, re-add the account, no effect.
Skype, Gtalk works well.

Don't use it myself, but until it is fixed you could try the web app? https://www.messenger.com/
I am still using the web app of Telegram because of the lack of a working port.

For the telegram app I am using the Iceweasel browser in Easy Debian. Takes a very long time to start but once it is started it is working fine.

Not an alternative... we can check messages on m.facebook.com.
Personally, I dont want to run anything except the basic conversations IM account. Generates low amounts of data, fast, simple, contacts integration, etc

So I'm hoping for a fix for that.

same here integration and data in kilobytes insted of megabytes is preffered at least for chatting and as facebook intregation is good on n900

I'd assume telegram is off-topic in this thread ... there's a telegram thread somewhere, which shows someone using a python port that seems to work.

but that's not helping those with FB problems

No news yet? Maybe someone contacted facebook support about this? It looks like something was changed. Chat stopped working on n900 2 weeks ago and there is still no real info about what happend.

Android devices seems to be working without any updates for OS or messenger app since, so I cant really say where problem is placed.

I already tried old fixes such as telepathy-gabble package ported from Debian if Im not mistaken. Old fixes does not work or are unlikely to install (Depedencies on older packages mostly). Is here someone who's running their n900 without CSSU update? I won't be flashing mine soon, got enough of it already ;)

Only alternative is, as someone mentioned, the m.facebook.com site, but there is no possibility to "real-time" chat. I'm haveing bad feeling about fix comin' in soon.

I hate Fb, but its neccessary evil now... most people dont even check their mail.. so, if Fb chat stays dead on N900, then N900 is pretty much dead as IM device for me. :(

Quiting fb is not an option in this modern wicked world, but this is not about left or stay, this is about fixing the problem.

N900 will loose big part of it's charm being without FB Chat. This is perfect device for IM, but what does it mean without it?

I was scrolling through web in order to find some info about facebook im connectivity and it looks like it doesn't change in years. What does it mean? 2 possible answers:

1. Something is wrong on facebook side, and they are already fixing it so it could be temporary problem/bug.

2. Something is wrong on our side, but there is no one with even idea where to look.

Just checked: Facebook chat on n800 (Diablo-Turbo) is also down.

Lets face it N900 is an EOL device without any company support. No company has any interest in it, so support needs to come from a small team of non-payed volunteers. They have their own priorities and workload so this may or may not be something they like to work on. I am still amazed what the N900 can do and I try to avoid using stuff that can break due to a company changing their proprietary code.

That's also why I am hoping for further development of a native Debian solution : DebiaN900
The best way to ensure long time support.

The charm of N900 as IM device disappeared many years ago. Sell the N900 to someone who needs it for its real charm :)

And yes, quitting Facebook is perfectly doable, and studies (biased?) indicate it may actually be your wisest move.

That said, the problem is not temporary. Facebook long ago said by April 2015, they would stop the xmpp service. We were on grace period all this time.

To develop alternative ... well :)

Every IM account that I'm using worked perfectly from release until now. Qwerty is the same, so ergonomy still cool too :P
Btw, I really get it, we are freedom fighters, Fb is sht, mega-gigacompanies ar sht, data mining are sht, still.
This device asks really two things. Solving interesting problems in it, and with it. +1 is to have fun with it :D
So, if some freedom figther who CAN fix this matter, decides that he will use his skills to fix this, I guess many users will thank him.

I'm still using this thing today as primary device for multiple tasks.. as internet radio, IM and mail device, pentesting fun, playing with FCam, playing music with FM transmitter, etc.. because no reason to switch device, if all my stuff is working with it.

I looked at this purple plugin the other day, but then a question came - how it is possible to work, if the only allowed chat (by FB) is Messenger. And it is web-based.

BTW I am one of those who use FB, though I am still undecided whether it makes sense to put effort in supporting FB moves to closed protocols and code.

So I checked this purple-facebook with pidgin yesterday and it works.
Facebook detects it as native facebook messenger client "Facebook Messenger for Android" (in notifications/suspicious login review), so I guess it uses native messenger protocol.

So maybe it will easy to get back facebook chat in n9/n900 soon :-)

quite a decision to make for a devloper
also would like to ask honestly as i see facebook regularly opensourcing stuff and like but i cant understand what they are as they are moving towards a walled garden approach and yet do good stuff for the greater good ?
