Windows Embedded Compact 7

I wonder if this could be made to run on the N900 hardware:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/m...computex-hosts

Looks like it is compiled for ARM. Device drivers might be tricky, unless there are generic/nonnokia WinCE drivers out there for the N900 hardware set.

I know talking about Windows on N900 is heretical, but the N900 is by definition a device for heretics, so cut me some slack here.

If it is in fact compiled for ARM, there's a tiny grain of possibility. However, for someone to take the time and write drivers for the N900 for free, I highly doubt.

Maybe using Mer/MeeGo drivers as a reference might speed things up, but again, I highly doubt it.

That is the orthodox response.

I get the sentiment. But it would be an interesting experiment nonetheless.

100% arm but not sure what it would offer for at least 2 years.

Here is the download site http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembe...s/default.mspx. I wonder if this version is arm ready?? I will have to dig up my Windows live account now:)

windows wouldn't be as bad as anything from apple....linux would be the ideal (or Utopian as pseudo-philosophers would call it), windows would be the USA and Apple would be Nazi Germany

I kind of like the idea.
Linux is great but is only for techies.

wouldn't it be possible to try this out on a vm first???

Microsoft has changed a lot over the years, for example they even acquired sysinternals, and those guys from sysinternals certainly have impacted products like windows 7 & 2008 for the better.

I sense this version, has also been influenced by them.

So, stop talking, get a license (they're free if you, your company or your university is subscribed to MSDN) and start writing the drivers.

There's no impediment other than it being a massive time sink.
