Re: N900 alternative boot video (maemo.org one)

I have tried to link a video from another location:
#filename=maemo.avi
filename=/home/user/MyDocs/bootvideos/ {videofile}
It isn't working. I can comment a previous video, right? And, does the videofile need to be in the hildon related folder perse?

Hello

I tried to do the same thing because I wanted to free up space in rootfs.

You cannot put the boot video in MyDocs because it seems that partition isn't mounted untill the N900 has already booted up. But you could place it in /opt.

I instead created a shortcut (or symlink) to the video and placed the video in /opt. See this thread.

Hey thanks everyone for all this and thank for the details on how to do everything for beginners like me was easy in the end the only thing i found was the videos i put into the phone would only play on boot if i named them the same as the original hands video and left the cofig file name blank otherwise i had no video at all.

I have no idea where this video is located in the file structure but I am sure someone here can tell. I think I have rendered a correct 800x480 (xvid and mp3) video in a avi container..

UPDATE: Added dark version with new sounds! :-) also an 9hour render with motion blur so the animation is really smooth. It was worth the wait, hehe.. not quite. I removed the penguin. This theme is to dark for a happy penguin.

NEW UPDATE:
(I can't stop tweaking this.. :-)
I now know the meaning of loong render times. Made a flyby camera movement and put it on render over night. I added the components logos in the bottom (if this is a trademark issue again I will delete them) at the end of the video. Lots of After Effects stuff here.. wish I knew Blender. I hear rumours that Apple Shake (old like 2.0 or 3.0) sources was released to some companies. There is a linux version of that. I wish someone stole those and made a open-soruce compositing package ;-).

It worked, but will only play 2 videos.

Hey Jnolcox

I tried creating another .conf file but still only 1 is playing.

Can you tell me what you did to make it work?
*********

I found how to do it.. seems like if you keep the original hangs video. It will not load the second video even if you put 2 .conf files. You need to rename the original video name then it will work.

I just renamed my video as the one that was there. Should note if not noted you need to have rootish installed to move the file... And a video editing studio helps too.

I've just come across this killer application called BootScreen by Valério Valério that lets you change the bootscreen with zero hacking skills. You don't even need to touch the terminal. Awesome.

here's the package site:
http://maemo.org/packages/view/bootscreen/

and here's the thread where all has begun:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33000&page=7

did some scripting myself with using event.d for changing the bootvideo randomly on startup (and it works! ^^) but this app is better for endusers. :)

Did you selected one or more videos in bootscreen ? Are you using the "random" or "multiple" option ?
