Am I the only person who doesn't want Meego?!?!?!

I am personally not happy with the whole Meego OS idea - I like Maemo - it is fast and the UI is perfect for a touch screen device - I feel the Maemo UI is far superior to both Android and iPhone OS - Moblin is a cool idea I guess but it is EXTREMELY SLOW AND BUGGY - I have tested it on one of my laptops and I quickly removed it.

Until now I have just kept quite about my opinions on Moblin since the future direction of MeeGo was unknown but recently quite a few screen shots and videos have been released by Intel and this ISNT MAEMO it is MOBLIN!!!

In the youtube video above this Intel employee gets on camera with an acer netbook and says this is Meego 1.0!!!

Now to someone who has never seen or used Moblin they would probably agree and say wow look what Maemo 6 aka Meego has become but I used Moblin before I even got my N900 and I know Moblin when I see it.

Now here is a screenshot of the Meego cell phone UI - WTF IS THIS?!?!?

It looks like Windows 7 Phone OS!!!

Where is the easy to access multi-tasking?
(One of the main attractions for me to Maemo in the first place)

Where are the limitless customizable widgets on the home screen?
(Similar to what makes androids home screen so cool)
I don't want you to control my home screen and show me what you THINK i want to see their.

I read an article yesterday where the apple iPad was compared to a beta release version of the HP SLATE (running WIN7)

The reviewer hesitate favored the Apple iPad because obviously windows 7 isn't meant for a touch screen device. I can't help but think how awesome Maemo (or Mer) would be on an HP Slate - I think it would make any reviewer hard not to name the HP Slate the winner if it was running Maemo.

And now that Nokia is riding Intel's . . . ummm . .. chips . . . it is sad to say that we may never see the Maemo OS developed to its full potential . . . That is of course unless someone picks up the Mer Project and continues development where Nokia left off. .. ..

Cutting the reply short - Quite lucky you don't have to have it :D :D - Just Keep Maemo for now :D - Judge Meego when you see it running on the device, and once it has matured :D

Youre not the only one.. So far it looks like they just took moblin and renamed it to meego, lets hope thats not the final UI.

I like the idea of MeeGo, having one OS on multiple platforms... including TVs, but I'm happy with Maemo on my N900. I hope they'll keep developing Maemo for a while, at least until MeeGo is a mature alternative.

I highly doubt Nokia would accept MeeGo regression to the point where it performed more poorly than Maemo.

Re: Am I the only person who doesn't want Meego?!?!?!

agreed with the author. ive never seen or used moblin but if what you say is true it means us early adapters (and now many mainstream users) will have to adapt once again to a new baby OS. i dont mind that except i dont want to wait 2 more years to fully exploit the powers of n900 and meego.

nokia and maemo were and in a case still are in a far better position to deliver superb products that can lead the market but it seems the direction they have taken is that of slow long development. i work in making software projects and ive been feeling like a user testig their latest ideas ever since n97.

android seems to be ravishing the market so quickly 2.1 android is simply kick ***. they have taken great innovative ideas and made a somewhat closed product that just works. maemo is far more powerful but we will never know now.

anyway not sure what my point is anymore. il stick with maemo/meego despite the frustrations. and hopefully meego doesnt disappoint as moblin clearly has.

Performance will not be solely about UI.
