Unless it runs Sailfish we will hate it! What a piece of s***, it runs Android, it sucks a**!

Re: Latest And Greatest!

Isn't that the truth. No seriously.

Due to a want/need to start looking for a form of income, I ended up getting an android phone to test things on. And holy crap, seriously people had kept telling me "Oh, it's gotten so much better since 1.6!" which is the last version I'd really used for more than a few moments at a time.

I'd installed Android-x86 on my Touchsmart, but the touch screen wouldn't work, but everything else did (still looking into getting the touch working). Looked/ran okay, and was kind of wanting another device to test on... so I ended up getting a Galaxy Note 3.

I absolutely hate it. Where's my swiping from the edge to change screens? Where is the awesome multi-tasking?

Can't wait 'til I can throw sailfish on it!

Re: Latest And Greatest!

yes, sailfish needs some proper hardware...

Love this:
"Chinese smartphone maker Oppo plans to launch its latest high-end phone this month. The Oppo Find 7 is expected to come in two versions, one with a 2560 x 1440 pixel display and another with a plain old 1920 x 1080 pixel screen. And there’s evidence at least one version of the phone could have a 50MP camera."

1920x1080 is now OLD. Finally!

Hold Back for 3 seconds.
Swipe open the Application Tray on either side of the screen.
Choose the App.
Hold and Drag the App to the top or bottom of the screen.
Multitask with two Apps on-screen, something that can't be achieved on Sailfish.

Haters gonna hate.

Re: Latest And Greatest!

Ah, so that's what multi-window does. I was trying to figure out beyond the side launcher what it did. Only thing I hate about that is the side bar arrow is always there, doesn't matter if you're in a full screen game or not. It's just always there until you turn multi-window back off. It'd have been better if you could make it so it was just a swipe from the side.

I still prefer how the N9 handles things, how often on a small screen would you need two windows open? On a 7"+ tablet, I could see.

I don't know, after using my N9 for two years, Android (granted, I realize part of this issue is probably TouchWiz) just seems non-natural and horribly unintuitive.

Re: Latest And Greatest!

I have been a fan of the multi-window thing since ages when I used to use my S2, Note or i9305 as my secondary phones but once my N9 gave up many moons ago, I just dont use multi-window much.

It become so rare that I switched to MIUI and never missed multi-window. One thing I do like about Android is the pop-up windows for video players that can be dragged around so if I am for example playing sudoku I can put it at the bottom or top and view my music videos. Multi-tasking is also improved with things like LMT Pie Controls, Switchr etc so Android has some cool things that try to make up for its crippled multi-tasking methods.

However, the crap I have to put up with to do basic things like rsyncing, SSHing over USB (w/o using adb) etc make me long for the day Sailfish is ported over to my i9305 or Nex4. Hopefully by then Sailfish is more mature as in its current infancy it lags behind Android for my current usage patterns (i.e. proper Cal/CardDAV etc).

50mp camera. Can it beat the nokia pureview performance or match it is the thing to see. Rest is all android.

Re: Latest And Greatest!

50MP camera on a phone. Can we say sick and wrong? Well, and utterly awesome. Yeah, after having an N900 and N9, I really do understand why people say that Samsung phones feel cheap.

I'm still debating if I want to use my Note 3 to make any actual calls. I'll have to see if I can find an app that doesn't suck (be ad supported) that will record my calls. The Advanced Call recorder I think was only a few bucks for the N9, but it works perfectly.

Guys, i doubt we Will see 50mp this month. IT Will probably have a 13mp. Don't like oppo stock OS so it's just to release it with some mod or if sailfish will be released full for android.

If you are using multi-window and, say, have two apps on the screen, you can do a long press on return and the arrow will go out of view without effecting the two apps on the screen. You can also set up shortcuts with other side launchers like unity launcher (also need another app called multi window manager + pro version) and start up floating resizable apps on top of that. There are other apps that let you also set up 4 windows on your screen (multiwindow plus) if you like. Of course, you can also open more apps at the same time by using shortcuts.

Re: Latest And Greatest!

@slaapliedje

Here's a couple things you should do with your NOTE 3 so that it doesn't suck:

1) Root (easy CF-Root, or use Root de la Vega to keep Knox 0x0)
2) Custom Recovery (easy TeamWin, or use kn0x0ut keep warranty)
3) Customize:
- A) EFS etc etc backup
- B) MODs like Xposed Framework, Volume Booster, SecMMS, Unlimite MultiWindow, Call Record etc etc etc
- C) Easy install VillainMOD
-----or Manually install your favourite TW ROM, Kernel, and Radio

...by doing this your phone will keep MultiWindow and keep the official S Pen functionality (palm reject, pen alarm, pen remove, circle window, official app, etc etc). It will get rid of all that bloat, saving you a lot of memory, battery life, data and make things smoother than an iPhone 4S). In addition it will use Samsung's fantastic first-party Apps like Phone, Messaging, Camera Apps without the lame drawbacks.

You should also grab these fantastic Apps that I recommend:
- Apex PRO (best launcher imho)
- Kii Keyboard PRO
- 500px PRO (help support CF dev)
- SwitchR PRO (you can make swipe up from the bottom launch Recent Tasks list)
- Titanium Backup PRO
- Root Explorer PRO

- Sixaxis App (use Sixaxis, DS3, Datel controllers in supported Apps, also maps universal screen actions)
- Xposed MODules such as (XPrivacy, Adblock, Tinted Status Bar, XBlast Tools, GravityBox, Xposed Additions, Xuimod)

And while you're at it, I recommend these accessories to compliment your phone:
- This awesome case
- This awesome screen protector
- This memory card
- This desk/bedroom cradle
- This car cradle
- This car fast-charger
- This controller to use the Sixaxis App and play games
- And this mount/diy to place the phone over the controller to make your very own Nvidia Shield and play Apps, GTA SA/Vice city/3, PPSSPP, DraStic, Reicast, Winulator, FPSe, Mupen64, VGBA, Super GNES, iGensNoid etc etc.

Will be interesting to see which of the players to launch the fastest chip worldwide...G3 or HTC is my bet...why not jolla or canonical.

Samsung doing like Nokia did 5-10 years ago. Have a position to invent niche products that no one else can afford. Question...will they stay on android too long...

The LG G2 has hardware buttons on the back, and they say it's pretty good, you can reach them easily if you have smaller hands.

probably too thin for comfortable handling! mine is pretty fast and snappy, but still has a bit of a bulge on the back

also, a very elaborate otherhalf hardware extension concept:

To add to that go for the i9305 instead of plain i9300; it comes with 2gig RAM and in today's times it makes a huge difference.

I9305 is not available in my Country. if its available its price is higher than the I9300. I Agree with you that 2gb makes sense today. i will search for a I9305.

Kangal 2014-03-19 08:43

Re: Latest And Greatest!

Don't go looking for it if its not that available.
Try for the S4.... its smaller, has a bigger screen, looks more stylish and feels a bit better in the hand. They'll get cheap really soon as the SGS5 comes out.

I only recommend the S4 over the Nexus 5 for its microSD and removable battery.

If possible, get the Nexus 5... its cheaper, more premium and has the best software possibilities. Perhaps you might even boot native ubuntu/linux on it? But chroot is always there.

But if only the best will do, then there isn't anything that trumps the NOTE 3. Well, maybe the iPhone 6/Nexus 6

I think it was him trying to show you that a traditional Linux build has Applications that are about 1 or 1.5 layers away from the kernel. Compared to Android build which has closer to 3 layers. More layers means more complexity, more processing, more time wasted, more cpu cycles wasted, etc etc.

So maybe a proper Linux build running on an outdated hardware like a 1.5GHz Dual Krait... will run faster than a 2.5GHz Quad Krait on Android build.

One is simply more efficient than the other.

I'm writing on exactly that right now. Not that anyone cares...but still...white one is by far the best.

It's very nice bang for the buck right now. But if it's the latest and greatest...doubtful.

Non removable battery. Agree. Cam is pretty weak too and no light. :D

Hi. Not trying to start anything but just trying to understand.
In my simple way of looking at things I always assumed that because Android pretty much uses Java (plus other stuff of course) it has to use a virtual machine (Dalvik) and it is this extra layer which in general makes Android more inefficient than your typical Linux distribution. I guess odexing helps improve Android performance but hard to believe it can do better...

EDIT: I also suggest Dave999 study the following...
