What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

We know 2007He is delicate and unstable  , but I still like it and in some instant, it is in fact easier to install then 2006Os. For example, maemo mapper, On 2006Os, I fight, and fight and fight, still stuck on 1.3.5, and on 2007He dl app and install via AM, one shot business, no kick and scream) For most apps, it is a hit and miss situation. There is no need for everyone to try hit-and-miss, please put down your experience and others can follow, without having to install an app and, found out it does not work and have to roll-back. And, please insert comments if you encounter problems in dependence upon installation. We know, most apps work, provide you spend tons of energy to locate the dependent files. Finally, I do not know which forum I should post this (or to look for other 2007He info), I think 2007He is going to be around and need a forum of itself.

New edit (9/9/7): With the arrival of 2007He2007.36-2, most of the above has now been corrected with the exception of video handling. Strongly advice to upgrade to the latest Hack Edn. The following lists apps that has been reported to be working/not working/damage to browser etc.

5/31/08 Garnet VM beta II worked wonder
GVM beta II works with 2007He and is very fast. Some palm apps may crash the system. Overall GVM is a good platform for 2007He. Ironically, the "unstable" 2008He is MUCH MUCH MORE stable under GVM/2008OS.

7/17/08 GrandCentral Dial out has been reported working.

9/14/08 Yup. I tested it myself, under 2008He, both Dialcentral and Gizmo 5 are working, you can now use your 770 as a regular phone, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...898#post223898

2/11/09 mytube is up and running, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...873#post263873

5/30/09 gvmbeta 4 works, dl the one for OS2007 and works well with 2007He (4.2008.7-1), no dependency problem, 2008He has dependency problem.
TCPMP also works well on gvm, see for details, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...090#post292090

Thanks for the list. I can add AisleRiot solitaire to the list. I, however, have problems with minimo (not enough memory, or some such thing. I didn't really understand the log entry.) and becomeroot doesn't work (cannot find).

Oh, yeah, gpe-calendar doesn't run as an applet (maybe it isn't supposed to, but it is selectable.) It shows just a white square box on the screen. I think it's a bit more than I was looking for anyway, but I just want a popup calendar thing. I think dates is too much too.

Bob

I had a lot of garbage (pictures and movies and stuff) that came with the unit. I deleted all that and Minimo installed and runs OK.

I probably just don't understand becomeroot. A friend got it work under 2006OS but tried it again (sudo becomeroot) and it asks for a password (which it didn't before).

2007HE is the Hacker Edition, basically a way to give n800's features on a n770. Unfortunately, not everything works e.g. flash or video. Some things do work and work well. It has better support for some security features for example it can find my office (hidden) network where as I couldn't connect to it with 2006 normal version. PEAP is the default instead of older options.

It does seem a little bit slower but just a little. Streaming audio stops working but there is a work around that is available on this forum.

I have been using it for 3 days now and I do not plan to go back to the normal version.

If you are a gamer SCUMM is NOT supported on 2007HE.

My minimo works to some extend, it sometimes hangs when open more than one windows. Can someone teach me how to config the cache? I also read a thread about how to turn off some features to make it go faster, but I have not tried too hard. Attempt to do about:config or opera:config, both failed to show up. Has anybody try that?

For the 2nd point, Umm...., I am not quite sure why, mine seems running pretty OK, most people complaint about the alarm, I have not tried. But otherwise, all other featurses seem to work, except 'X' does not close the app, one has to use the menu 'CLOSE' to close the app.

2007He. It worked without a hitch. As a matter of fact, I made it worked on 2007He first, then I learned the setup and go back to 2006Os and made it worked too, but on 1.3.5., for some reason, I cannot make the 1.4.7-2 to install under 2006Os.

Is anyone having issues with the RSS reader in the new HE? Mine started out fine, but have started to run into parsing and refresh issues that weren't present in the 2006 OS. Thinking something is corrupted somewhere and I need to reflash, but first thought I see what others thought.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

This was already answered a bit in a previous post in this thread, but I'm wondering if someone would be kind enough to expand upon it.

The 2007HE is a way to get the N800 features onto the N770. So, is this the N800 OS ported over to the N770? Or is it the 2006 updated with 2007 OS code?

So, when I try to install apps from the Maemo page, should I search for the app and the 2007 OS or 2006? It seems most of the time the same app is applied across both OS versions, but I'm just curious.

Another topic so to speak..I was reading about the MicroB. This is just a more advanced rendering engine that can be used in Opera? It was compatible with the 2006 os, but not yet the 2007HE. For people using it, how was it? I never tried. I've also seen several areas on how to install it but nothing seemed concrete. Use an install file, repository and then creating symbolic links. Are all of these necessary on the 2006 OS?

Thanks again for everyone's time. It is appreciated.

bartsimpson123844 2007-09-12 21:05

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Okay, I got MicroB installed and working properly. IMHO, I like it way better than Opera.

Linear2202- it is running basically the same OS as the N800, so it runs N800 apps or anything that is compatible with OS2007 or both OS2007 and 2006.

The main thing I think Nokia needs to get done on the next update of the HE is video streaming/video playback.

Linear2202 2007-09-12 23:38

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Ahh ok.

Don't suppose you would be willing to help me out getting MicroB installed and working. Sure would love to try it out.

Gonna see about getting flash 9 installed soon as well.

Thanks again.

bartsimpson123844 2007-09-13 01:26

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Uhh, well, I installed it and loaded it, and well, it just worked. At first I went into Opera and tried to switch it in the options to MicroB. Do NOT try to do that. I went into the programs menu and it was installed in the "Extras" and I loaded it and now it works fine. I still can't get the flashplayer to work, however.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Hmm, I managed to get it installed, but don't see anything different. No extra's menu. Tried a reboot, nothing. Shows up in the installed apps section. Any thoughts?

Thanks all.

audio streaming issues

I've found the audio streamer appears to tie up the system resources to such an extent that even simply trying to adjust the volume is painstakingly slow - never mind trying to multitask whilst listening.

Another observation - when audio streaming the backlight remains on full brightness - not sure if it did this in 2006 or not, but at least switching off the backlight would conserve power...

Placing the cover on seems to activate some sort of sleep mode, but the battery is flat in the morning...

I've gotten osso-statusbar-cpu to work nicely out of the box.

You need to enable it in the control panel after installing:

Control panel -> Navigation -> Status bar

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Ahh, I will try that. Thank you. I was not even thinking about looking for some settings. I was just expecting the bar to show up after reboot.

Thanks again.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

I just tried oss-statusbar-cpu on a new install of 2007HE and it doesn't run at all.
No amount of changes to the control panel settings will make it show up on the status bar.
I looked through the process list and didn't see any sign of life there either.
Tried rebooting, reinstalling to no avail.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

Daverup

Did you enable the Osso-Statusbar-CPU applet in the Tools--Control Panel--Navigation--Status Bar tab? I had forgotten that the indicator just doesn't 'show up' like some of the similar status bar indicators.

Hope this helps.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

I can not get Microb to install properly, despite it saying it had installed fine - I get the error on start up. I uninstalled, cleared out the cache4 directory and got my Opera back thankfully.

But installing the Flash 9 plugin was no problem following Milhouse's steps. It works like a charm.

What I'm noticing though... my Bluetooth status keeps going to on, despite me setting it off. That's annoying.

I have on my 770 though pretty much all in this thread:
Idea 1.1
Kismet
Becomeroot
XTerm
Kagu 1.07
Canola
Leafpad
OM Weather
Unzip
Unrar
Zip
Evince
MPlayer
Gizmo
Pidgin
Panel Clock
Flash 9 Player

Just wished that Microb would behave. Well that and Skype would make me happy.

I have moved videocenter from cat "installable but not working properly" to cat "working properly", see another post, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=9830.

With this new app working properly, I start to reassess the video problem of the 770. Maybe more tweaks is what it needs.

Re: What apps/version on your 2007He and does it work?

On and off this has been asked: I am running 2007He, which app should I install, 2007 vs 2006 or N800 vs 770?

There are several posts sugguest take the 2007 or the N800. I doubt there is any evidence to back up one way or the other, I think we just copy from each other (search it, I said that too in the past). After reviewing the list of apps, 99.99% apps are for 770 and 2006OS. Only videocenter that came out on 9/7/07 are 2007He and N800 installation, even then, one requires to install mplayer of 770 for it to work. Overall, my impression, this time back up with apps listed in this thread,

when installing apps, the 770 or 2006OS are the safe choice. 'Take a chance' if version 770 or 2006OS is NOT available. Some of them could do damage, micro B is an example. Most of them simply wont install. I think it is a good idea to have one person checking and the other follow suit, that is the whole idea of this thread.

Regarding update, I am pretty sure you already got an idea. Firstly, they may not be reflected from your app manager, I guess you are running 770 on a 2007He platform, secondly the update basically is for the N800, so not applicable, e.g., mplayer update listed as ...N800....., and maemo mapper update listed as 1.4.7-3, and both are for N800.

Latest version of Streamtuner streamtuner_0.99.99-9maemo2007_armel.deb from the garage works with the Mplayer for n770. Needs the libxau0 to be installed via Red Pill method.

The Media Player (realplayer?) builtin to the distro doesnt handle SMIL - the link Im trying to download is a Real audio file but it opens as a SMIL which cant be handled - opens as a real type in Realplayer 11 on Windows.

Might be a MIME type problem?

I couldn't get the videocenter (2.0.41) to work.

Streamtuner, pls look up from installed app and post the version number, thanks. so does the Sylpheed too.

2.0.41 is kind of tricky though. Have you installed the earlier version of VC, the initial release VC2007.38-1? If you did, the upgrade would be fine ONLY if you just install the upgrade. If you install and unstall, it would not load unless you delete all related folders, one on your MMC and one on the Document. What is the error message from your V installation?
