Can someone photoshop the maemo and the sailfishOS logos, please?

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Could someone explain what exactly have Jolla (device) to do with Maemo's FB page and Maemo as a whole? Do we get paid to advertise them?
|
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Don't be frustrated that we do not let the community die just because it got abandoned...
Because the company brand changed? All the MeeGo/Harmattan talk happens here why not have the sailfish/Jolla community with us as well? We need to move on with things, that does not mean we abandon our past. The company changed but the people are the same, their interest is the same, no?! If Nokia had continued their work it would be Maemo7/MeeGo2 and it would happen here... now the brand changed... and it is called Sailfish. |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
@chemist you on drugs?
Just rename the FB page to sailfish or whatever makes you feel good. Seriously, sailfish is not even close to maemo  It might have a few people in it, but it's based on mer not maemo. Your confused maemo != meego != sailfish Hey, don't worry about maemo dying... Jolla/sailfish will most likely die before maemo does! You've sold out to the latest and trendiest. Poor maemo page :( |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
First of all it's not shellfish.
Secondly, Mer is MeeGo rebranded which is Moblin's base and Maemo's upper levels. It is as close to maemo as it can get, possibly even closer than whatever contraption Nokia would spew out as MeeGo 2. It's made by the same people, as chemist said, who did maemo and the old mer. Don't stick to names, it's the code that matters. It might very well not succeed, but if we don't support them who will? They are some of this very community and they built the only mobile linux that respects upstream instead of letting MeeGo die. I just hope you are proved wrong. |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
After all think about why you do like maemo. Not because of what it is, because it frankly is a mess of a dependency spaghetti with parts of etch and sarge, closed binary blobs from nokia and GUI apps so tangled that Nokia didn't even bother to sort it out, and built a giant metapackage with everything as a dependency. We all like it because it is so close to what we want. It is so close to a full computer in the pocket, it has a proper package manager, a proper display server, support for GTK and Qt so that most of the desktop apps can be compiled, fully functional terminal and so on.
Mer ticks more boxes than maemo in this regard. It is a proper distribution with less castrated/patched tools and free from binary blobs. Apps might be closed source but that was always the case with maemo with the added "benefit" that removing the apps destroyed the system. That is why I see that the obvious future of the mobile linux world is there. And you can run hildon-desktop on mer if you so desire :) |

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
i agree with qwazix. 1st picture looks good.

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Why are you people so angry about development? Who was it, that developed Maemo? Those were the exact people, who are now continuing it as Sailfish.
They were the people working at Nokia coming to their bosses with an Open-Source-Linux-Idea. And who was is, that told them "Ok, but don't make a phone out of it" (until Maemo 5)? NOKIA They were the people who loved Maemo, but had now had to collaborate with Intel and rebrand it as Meego and build in something stupid, they did not want, called Aegis. And who told them to do this? NOKIA Who told them to use a non-replacable battery and no SD-card anymore? NOKIA ... and now these people are free to build a phone, they (and most of us) always wanted, and we should not support them? |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Why not put the N900 there too with the sailfish phone in the top picture. Give the N900 with some typical Maemo screenshots 2/3 or 3/4 of the space, and the est to the Jolla device, as to say that that is the successor for the N900. Maemo is N900. To put hte Jolla there front and centre could be misleading to visitors. Is it Jolla? Maemo?

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Exactly.
I have no probs with integrating Jolla/Sailfish. But keep Maemo in mind and front (at least now :)). |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Damn qwazix, learn some Photoshop.
Was wondering why this thread caused my N900 to shudder to a staggering crawl. Now looking at it on my Ububtu laptop and discovered those images are absolutely massive  |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
I know what you mean. The full image opened up in my browser before shrinking down into the "click this bar to view full image" box. While it was loading I was thinking "what, just a gradient background?" And then the corner of an N900 appeared and then it popped into the box.

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
I agree with qwazix proposals, as those pictures are more representative of the Maemo heritage.
Then perhaps the selected photo could be stitched side by side with a picture of a Jolla device, representing the likely future. |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
@qwazix - please, downsize those images a bit, it was for the first time to see my device using 500 MB of swap :)
Anyway, I am not against Jolla/Sailfish, the point is that it looks weird to me to have only yet-to-be released device as something representing Maemo. Why not put Ubuntu phone then, after all Maemo is Debian derivative :p ? |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Maemo isn't only Nokia N900. Yes, sure, Nokia N900 is the one and only Maemo phone. And N9/50 is the successor. With Jolla in the future. But don't forget about Nokia 770/N800/N810. Yes, it's a difficult task, to put seven devices into one image without making the banner clattered. So, goog luck to GIMPers. If requested, I can post a photograph of N950 into public domain. Unfortunately, most devices are ill-suited to making photographs of themselves, even with mirror's assistance, so it will be a 5Mpx photograph when I get to it.
[Edit] On the other hand, you don't need my photographic assistance, with the heavy artillery you have here. [/Edit] Best wishes. _________________ Per aspera ad astra... |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Im not saying dont support jolla.. I think its okay... Just let maemo stay maemo
|
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
500mb swap for 3 12mp photos? Anyway i resized them. Full scale photos are in a folder named fullsize in the same location for anybody that wants them.
by the way I refuse to learn Photoshop |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Most companies have strict rules about modifying their logos. See firefox for example

nokia ,nokia ,nokia ,nokia, nokia , unknown , by the way who's manufacturing jolla's phones?

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Combine this http://blackmoore.files.wordpress.co...900-frente.jpg
with the red N9 on the right on this photo http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....11-06-21-0.jpg N900 front and the N9 a little more to the back. |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
I think it's a good idea to keep track of the Maemo - MeeGo - Sailfish timeline. After all they all hail from the same stable.
Depending how Sailfish develops over the coming years could mean you're supporting hundreds of devices eventually, so I think some obsolescence will need to come into it at sometime. |

Keep up the good work! If you got device pictures of your own... I'd love to share some old (Nxxx) on facebook - any condition - maybe some dissected? A new profile picture would be nice. As we cannot merge the logos for known reasons (I did not think about in the first place) someone might want to adapt his/her own sailfish into our maemo logo! |
Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
Morpog, did you gimp that picture or did you grep it from somewhere?
As http://www.jollausers.com/2013/06/sa...-for-sailfish/ cut out the maemo.org and reused it... well they link to us but still, not so nice. |

Re: [Help needed] You are Maemo - drop your ideas
isn't Maemo's facebook page is promoting/posting about Jolla more than N900/N9 ? every link they share or anything they post is totally related to Jolla. it's a Maemo page not Jolla i think.

But yeah, why not, WP is far better than Linux hahaha. bloody traitors... So yeah, better post something about its successor, than leave the page dead and look like the community is dead. :) |
