[ANNOUNCE] IRC Chatter - the IRC client for Nokia N9

Hi Everyone,

Creating this thread has been long overdue. I'm here to let you know that IRC Chatter is still alive and is aiming to be the best IRC client ever for the Nokia N9.

IRC Chatter is now also the official IRC client of Nemo Mobile.

More information about the app is here:
https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Nemo/IRC_Chatter
You can also get more information and help on the IRC channel #irc-chatter on the Freenode network.

You can download the installation package from here:
http://venemo.fedorapeople.org/harmattan/
Tested on my Nokia N9.

Note that before posting a question or bug, please make sure that you use the latest version released by me. Also, the app is heading for the Nokia Store, it will land soon.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] IRC Chatter - the IRC client for Nokia N9

When browsing the user list, may I suggest that you don't cut off the bottom...I understand its done there as the keyboard pops up but when the keyboard is minimized, the list effectively shows 5 names at a time which IMO is a wastage of the space...

Screen of the current implementation that I'm referring to:

Thanks!

Good idea. Added to my TODO list for next version.

Hello Venemo,

i am using IRC Chatter (version 0.2.92) for ages on my N9 as a beta tester, still the best IRC client available on the N9. I will update soon to 0.3.2. Thanks & recommendations.

One more request; can a dark (inverted) theme be implemented?

Edit: Ah just found that using a custom dark theme like FDB originalv7.6 gives a dark theme flavour...

It would be nice if ircchatter could use swipe to switch between userlist, messagearea and channellist.

i know this break cut/paste in chatwindow but one solution too that is to add a small toppanel and use that area as the swipe area.

Using /topic is still not supported, but the UI is still my favorite out of all the IRC clients that I have tried on the n9 so far.

Hi,

Nice idea, but that would possibly break text selection and more importantly, scrolling, in the chat window. However, you already have the message area and the channel list in the same window and can bring up the user list with two taps. Shouldn't be that much of a problem. :)

There still seems to be some minor problems with autoconnect, but atleast it works sometimes. Major problem is you lose all conversations when autoconnection happens.

Thanks for this awesome app. I have this app always running in background. I have been using it 10 months already, it's the most important app for me! I hope you still keep improving it and port it to Jolla (I guess it's easy job because it's working on nemo already)

E: Also a new server window is created everytime you connect to a server e.g. auto connection:

How can one connect using a client certificate? A network I use requires this for NickServ authentication, and without it I am denied access to important channels.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] IRC Chatter - the IRC client for Nokia N9

I don't know whether the following is a bug or a feature:

When you scroll to read earlier messages and don't have any contact with the screen, any new message would bring you down to the latest message. While it doesn't matter if reading one or two lines but if reading a conversation you need to make sure contact is maintained with the screen so it doesn't scroll down...

Could you please give me the exact steps to reproduce these issues?

What kind of certificate is it?
Can you point me to a description about how it's supposed to work?

There are other IRC clients for Maemo 5. And if you use Nemo on your N900, you already have IRC Chatter. (It wouldn't take much effort to port the app to Maemo 5, but I currently don't have the resources to do it.)

I plan to solve that, yes. (In earlier versions there was such a feature but it was so buggy I decided to remove it.)

I get an error code 451 as soon as I start my session on my irc server.

What does it mean?
notifications when someone says anything in any channel are supported?
I am not receiving those..

I will look into that error code.
Notifications only work when you are mentioned in a channel or when you get a new private message.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] IRC Chatter - the IRC client for Nokia N9

I followed the guide for registration, I am identified succesfully and everything seems to work.
I have set nick = real = user + password.
Despite, I always get a "No ident response" and Error 461.
Even though it works, it looks like something's wrong - but what?

Venemo 2013-07-14 15:03

Re: [ANNOUNCE] IRC Chatter - the IRC client for Nokia N9

Quick investigation shows that 461 is ERR_NEEDMOREPARAMS:
https://github.com/communi/libcommun...ude/irc.h#L311

I will look into it further.

Miraculously, I don't get that Error 461 anymore.
I have no problems at all if I connect directly to freenode.

ATM, I have the problem that if I connect to my bouncer (ZNC) that provides playback for 2 channels, the app hangs upon connecting (as mentioned on IRC). This happens even if there's just a few lines to load.
Most of the time, a message appears: IRCchatter does not respond. Do you want to close the app? - If I press no, most of the time the app stays unresponsive, sometimes loads some lines, sometimes the message pops up again and this kind of gets into a loop of that. I made a video but there's nothing more to see than what I described.
Only when I'm very lucky, it works.
I 'm under the impression that it generally get's worse when I'm connected over wifi.
No open mode, inception or off-wall tweaks here.

Edit: Also, the app does not establish a web-connection on its own, has to be done manually before.

Would be a happy tester for any updates. Is there any log I could provide?

I guess that'd because there're a LOT of messages that your bouncer sends at the same time, which is presumably more than what the QML TextEdit element can handle. I have an idea to improve on this.

It's unrelated to any of those.

It used to do that (by using QNetworkSession) but it's not a viable option because then on some networks the socket just didn't connect with some ridiculous error message. That's a bug in Harmattan, unfortunately.
EDIT: I could try to just bring up the "connect to internet" dialog, do you think that's enough?

Old thread but...

Is there any possibility of getting the program more character-sets?
For example iso-8859-1 ?

Thanks...
