My god! That's some pretty theme!

Kudos for you!
I'll try to fix the wallpaper issue for the next theme maker release (when I get the time for it in the distant future).

Re: My n800 Vista theme

thanks Adam - looks good.

Is it easy to change the font size in a theme?

konttori - thanks for the Theme Maker. I will download it and play with it. Is 0.85 the latest version? Your web site sounded like an update was due in December 06.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Yes, when you unpack the zip archive you click on the "MaemoThemeMaker" file and there will be a font section for you to increase or reduce the point size and also there is an advanced hexadecimal colour section which allows you to choose the colours of almost everything.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

I don 't see a MaemoThemeMaker file. Maybe that is not in the distribution.

Also, I am finding a few issues with themes in general. Related to icons not being changed when going back to other themes, etc. Probably reported before in other places. I don't want to hijack this thread so will research and post elsewhere..

The Opera icon has a line at the top (hard to see on the dark background but its there)

Are the dialog windows not themed yet?

Quite a useful theme: If I put this on my N800, it's less likely to be stolen, as potential thieves might think I'm running Vista.

LOL! :D I didn't tought about that

Re: My n800 Vista theme

yeah I noticed the opera icon.

I did this all last night till about 4am :S

was so scared in case I bricked my n800 again but it didnt :D

This is just a temporary theme, I'll go back and add proper vectorised icon. Still need to find out how to skin the select mouse over component in the menus, I cant seem to find it.

Also if you haven't noticed I made an edit the startup and shutdown image and loader :)

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Tabster you need to have java runtime installed on your machine before you can use the theme maker.

In the zip you should see MaemoThemeMaker.jar

in Windows Vista OS it doesnt seem to show a file icon, but just double click the file and the app should pop up.

Click here to download the latest release for theme maker (0.85)

Re: My n800 Vista theme

thanks.

I am worried that if I download the Theme Maker then I will waste more of my day than I already do!!

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Depends on the person. I didn't have anything to do (as usual) and I HATE the hildon UI so I had a go at skinning. I've done it for my mobiles and that was easy, as the application generates the images for you but I would only advice people to skin a N800 theme if they are very knowledgable in Photoshop or any similar program like Gimp, as you need to be very organised and know how to use layers and what tricks to do.

All you're doing is making your image over the template, sounds very easy but VERY hard, as you're working with pixels rather than vectors so to do a minor edit to something you might need to take your time and zoom up like 600% and edit pixel by pixel.

Also the template is only the begining and is only 75% of the UI which is skinned, the rest is all down to you editing the gtkrc file for example.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

I'm creating a Maemo Garage account so I will be hosting my themes on there soon and all my updates.

I will create several version of the Vista theme.

One with a small font size and one with the default size

and then soon I will make a major last edit which will skin all of the theme including the keyboard buttons and several other things.

A few tweaks/requests

red ovals: Can a theme make these huge side borders smaller?
green ovals: These images are not aligned so it is smooth
blue oval: can you remove the light gray pixel row?

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Large red ones can be dropped.
Latest theme maker (probably not the public one though) lets you choose to 'maximize screen', which drops those red areas among other things. I could maybe send you the latest version if you could 'volunteer' to let me know of any bugs you find in it.

Adam_n800 2007-03-29 15:58

Re: My n800 Vista theme

I'll see if I can correct these problems. I'm still getting use to having to zoom up into everything :S can get very confussing especially as objects aren't created in a solid colour but variants of multiples of tones and shades and gradients so it is hard to tell what the final outcome will be unless I test each theme. (trial and error)

the 'maximize screen' sounds great.

I don't have time to play with it at the moment. Maybe Adam can take up your offer of trying out the 'latest version'

thanks

Re: My n800 Vista theme

can this theme use the normal font size. the font size 11-12 is too small, although it can display much lines.

Adam_n800 2007-03-29 21:27

Re: My n800 Vista theme

I will release one with a bigger size soon, although anything above 12 points for general text seems too big for a handheld device

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Just wanted to throw you a big "thanks" for the theme, am loving it. One of the best themes yet, whatever improvements you do to it keep em coming. ;)

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Very nice, but the fonts are too small for moderately weak eyes.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Yep, bare with me as I am trying to perfect everything. Currently working on editing the system tray icons which will be the Vista ones also I will put up on the Maemo Garage different versions with different font sizes: 11, 12 and 14pt.

Testing out the new ThemeMaker which will allow me to edit more of the theme so might take me awhile.. but already I think my theme is better than all of them. I prefer simple and clean themes, just wish the widgets could slide away to the side when not needed.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

I'd like to get your opinions on the system tray icons.. :)

they're not the final ones, still tweaking them and trying to find an alarm and brightness icon :S

too small to see clearly in your screenshot

great theme. Thanks.
How do i get the widgets on the bottom of the screen?

Re: My n800 Vista theme

It's called Simple Launcher, allows you to set shortcut apps to the toolbar, You set which apps to appear on the toolbar by going "home, applet settings, launcher settings" after selecting it as an applet first.

I like this theme so much, thanks for doing it, it's a pity the issue about white background, by the way, are new versions coming?

Re: My n800 Vista theme

The creator of the Theme maker is working on a better improved version of the app, and I am working an an improved version of the theme with new icons and better startup/shutdown image and also researching on seeing if I can replace Nokias sounds with Windows Vistas ones. Just keep checkng back.

SeRi@lDiE 2007-04-05 04:21

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Yes you can replace the sounds.

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Adam_n800 THanks for the instructions on simple launcher. I installed it but couldn't figure out how to use it. Now I'm having the same problem with Theme Manager (I need to increase the font size). I would be greatful for your help in telling me how to launch your apps (it installed fine). THanks.

Adam_n800 2007-04-07 14:02

Re: My n800 Vista theme

Joeyman9: Once you've installed Simple Launcher it does not run via the apps menu. You must firstly select it as a desktop applet so it appears on the homepage. Then to select which apps appear on the shorcut bar, select "Home" and then in the drop down menu you should see "Applet Settings">> Launcher Settings, once selected a list of all apps installed on the device is available for you to select by using the tick box on the right, then press OK.

I am not sure how to edit the font sizes when on the device, I guess by editing the inifs but I advise not to make edits to system files unless you have backups of everything.

@SeRi@lDiE: How may I go about locating the sound files so I can swap them :)

I seem to be unable to install it on the new firmware, application manager always complains about the file being corrupt.

There have been many reports that you cannot add an extra or different theme on yet. Hopefully this will change soon.
