Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

Alright, here is another theme for all foto enthusiasts and photography lovers, this month theme would be FINE ART
You could take any photo that in your opinion/vision that represents fine art photography, (no photos of actual artwork like drawings or paintings) this is more philosophical approach to photography as what is it to you and how you would represent it here.
You could take pictures of almost anything (people, streets, cars, landscapes, shadows, tones, beach, forest, cities, etc) but remember the theme !

Good luck :)

Rules are as usual:
Photos must be taken during this month (after theme is announced)
Photos must be taken by the posting member
Photos must be taken with a camera phone
Users post only one photo per entry
Users can change the entry only once
Users must name the phone they used

Fine art, I really have trouble defining that genre. Maybe I am top autistic for it...

"I don't know what art is, but I know what I like."

So post anything you like to look at and we'll all have fun.

I gotta get busy figuring how to crop in SFOS.

Hi

I did google that fine art and result was...:

http://parishkohanim.com/wp-content/...FineArt-02.jpg

Well, my wife actually promised that she will be model to clone this... but clothes on...

Annoyingly, she had a cycling accident, and I had to come up with something else but booring...

Camera is still N9

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

Finally, our fine cellphone pictures are valued as the "fine art" they are!

My entry this month: Monarda fistulosa, or Wild Bergamot. The binomial comes from its "fistulous" form, i.e., the flowers form tubes or pipes or fistulas. This is growing in my garden, and is native to the area.

http://i.imgur.com/pIHtINi.jpg

My second choice -- an alternate should my main entry not be able to serve its whole term -- is "Sunlight in the Forest". I couldn't quite get everything to work in any of the six shots, so I just add it for giggles and grins. No recent trailside homicides, so I braved the bike trip for a photo.

http://i.imgur.com/C4ADR3o.jpg

Of course, we may all just be fooling ourselves, since photography isn't art. At first I thought this guy was a satirist, but his stuff in The Guardian seems mostly on-the-level, his fawning over tacky art print purses notwithstanding.

Edit: To say shot on OnePlus X running SFOS, stock camera, edited with the gallery app, which is to say hardly edited at all . . .

Thanks for letting the competition run some hours longer :D

I realized i have fine arts right in front of me.
The pictures were drawn by my mother as a gift when i renovated my shop.

Edit, back on Jolla C again which i took the photo with.

@mosen:
You may want to exchange your picture because of tomislavs rules.
(Even though those are very nice paintings!)

Oh no, i did not remember. Should have read again :D
I only saw the bump in "active topics" and went on shooting.

Maybe you can concider the massive effort i put in framing and angeling. I am traveling now and can not do another entry easily ;)

Well it's a railway station... so getting to their destination. I leave that destination for interpretation ;)

I like the angle though, gives some depth. The contrast, white vs Blue vs Orange is very good imo. That said, if I am the judge that pictures is quilified to run in the competetition. :)

What a great slate of entries!

Ed. Oh, right, I forgot! My vote is for #4 mr_pingu. Because in my mind, the woman in the white blouse has just escaped with a flash drive and is trying to evade her pursuers in that rail station. That's what art's supposed to do, right? Make you think and feel?

My photo isn't working on your list, robthebold.

Anyway I'm torn between mosen or macros. Like the contrast and the lines iof mosen's picture but I really like the real and the fake frog on macros...
Hard choice but... I vote for Macros (#1)

It isn't working in your post either.

It is a good photo, though I am not convinced it qualifies for "fine photography".

My vote goes to catbus.

Thats my gripe with fine art, it's just not a well defined genre:rolleyes:

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

But it created many interesting entries. I have great difficulty deciding, who deserves my vote.

Maybe I will write something about each entry to help myself choose.

#2 saponga
Infinity mirrors are quite nice. Does a b/w photography of one create fine art?

#3 catbus
Caustics of glasses are often seen and certainly interesting, does the focus on it make the picture fine art? Maybe.

#4 mr_pingu
This picture certainly has something, but somehow fine art doesn't fit for me.

#5 taixzo
A city/village, no candidate for me.

#6 robthebold
This flower is beautiful and interesting. Certainly fine art of nature.
Is it fine art to take a picture of it?

#7 mosen
While beautiful pictures, disqualified for me by the rules

#8 tomislav
This picture doesn't seem nice at first look, but the contrast of the grinning abomination to the garbage can certainly has something artsy about it. The background doesn't support the picture though.

#9 rm250j
Quite nice, but no fine art for me.

So... Its catbus vs robthebold vs tomislav.

My vote goes to #3 catbus.

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

Nice summary, Macros! I also had to go by the process of elimination.

I forgot to add in my previous post: if only robthebold had submitted his second choice as his candidate photo! That would have been my first choice without question.

I vote for #2 Saponga.
Mainly because i still have not quite figured out what it shows.

Two mirrors in your bathroom?
Srsly, how come yu no see zee camera??

Macros 2017-07-31 11:16

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

What you see is an infinity mirror. Its quite simple, but the effect is stunning.

You take a mirror plate and place a raised frame around it.
On the frame you mount a glass plate with a half transparent mirror foil. You know those things you always see in crime shows with the interrogation rooms. Say it reflects 80% of incoming light.
Now you place some bright LEDs in the space between both plates. The light bounces back and fourth between both mirrors and each time some of it escapes trough the partially reflective foil, so you see the light straight from the LEDs, see some reflected one, less reflected twice, till it gets to faint to see.

Because the light has to travel the distance multiple times it creates an illusion of depth

It's just a box with 2 (almost) parallel mirrors inside. We can not see the camera because the are only two small holes through where you can see the "tunnel". ;)

Ahh, nice!
I remember seeing that in Frankfurt Movie Museum. thanks!
Closest i come at home is with two 90° angled mirror in my bathroom, but you sure always see the "observer" because it is in between the mirrors :D

Yes... that's it: a science centre exhibit.

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

I like #1 Toad Sage, #2 Age of Cinema, #4 City, #8 Alien Waste in the town (same effect as seeing Doctor Who's booth somewhere: anachronism, doesn't fit the surroundings), and #9 Mythology in the Sky (actually, not only sky... sea looks like the calm before the storm, too). #9 looks too momentous to be called fine, #8 is not exactly something to be put on the wall(paper) and admired (like a piece of art), #4 looks like a scene out of a movie (artistic), #2 is captivating (like a riddle), and #1 is great in its duality (animated being vs inanimate thing; original vs copy, rendition). I still vote for #4, but #1 is very close.

Thank you.

I can see your photo fine on desktop chromium, but not when using my SFOS mobile device and its stock browser. I have no idea why this is or how to fix the IMG link , but I've edited the post to add a direct link to the picture so that anyone who can't view it in their browser can download it and open it in their favorite jpeg viewer.
