Re: How to flash N900??

Better yet, read the guide found on Maemocentral.com
Follow those instructions, they are easier to follow...but use the code on the Maemo Wiki guide, as the code on Maemocentral is not 100% correct

Re: How to flash N900??

run the flasher first before connecting usb to ur device,,

when you r in cmd prompt hold 'u" button on ur n900 and connect the usb . ull get a vibration followed by nokia logo and usb connected logo, release the "u" key and execute ur command!

that trick worked for me,, if it fails try another machine

May I ask, what version of Windows, MAC or Linux are you using?

if you are using windows 32bits then you may want to install LibUSB

http://wiki.maemo.org/Flasher

from there link above, else you will get an error while trying to do it.

Turn off the device completely and slide the Keyboard out. Plug the usb in and press U while running the command line. Don't let go of U until it is detected by the windows.

Re: How to flash N900??

is it a laptop or desktop? laptop use the back USB port for better result.

did you put the image .bin file into C:\program files\maemo\flasher?

download the image yet? download it and put in the flasher directory. Then go to run and type CMD. THen you follow the instruction.

1. put the .bin image file into C:\%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5\
2. make sure your phone battery is atleast halfway. Turn the phone off
3. Open Command line and type:

%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5\

4.Hold the u key on the keyboard of N900 and connect the USB cable at the same time
5. In the commandline run: flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin -f -R

make sure you type the name correctly. Other wise it won't work.

You can try the flasher commands here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Flasher

Actually, it was a simple blunder.. After installation of flasher, I right clicked from Start Menu the Flasher command and selected OPEN FOLDER. I paste the bin file in this folder.. It was not working.. Then I recopied it in program files. This works.. :-) Thanks alot

if you want to have a clean device without any software installed and broken codes and if you don't have any important data on the device then go a head :D it's for the best. And once you done it, one advise is to stay away from Extra-Dev unless you're know what you are doing else it will make your device unstable.

Re: How to flash N900??

follow this step using flasher 3.5

In order to flash the eMMC, follow these steps:

* Fully charge the battery (IMPORTANT!!)
* Unplug the USB cable from the device.
* Turn off the device.
* Install Flasher for your OS (Linux, Mac OS X or MS Windows)
* Grab the Vanilla eMMC image (.bin file) from the Nokia repository
* Navigate to the directory where the image file was saved.
* Plug in the USB cable into the computer.
* Execute the following command (in linux you have to be root!):

* Windows

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin -f -R

* Text similar to the following will be displayed on the computer:

flasher v2.5.2 (Oct 21 2009)

Image 'mmc', size 241163 kB
Version RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA
Suitable USB device not found, waiting.

* Plug the USB cable into the N900.
* The dim Nokia screen will be displayed for a few seconds followed by progression dots. Text similar to the following will be displayed on the computer:

USB device found found at bus 001, device address 006.
Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101
NOLO version 1.4.13
Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.002_PR_002
Booting device into flash mode.
Suitable USB device not found, waiting.
USB device found found at bus 001, device address 007.
Raw data transfer EP found at EP2.
[writing 74 % 179200 / 241163 kB 13180 kB/s]
Image(s) flashed successfully in 26.848 s (8982 kB/s)!

* The flash will take around 1 minute after which the device will reboot.
* The bright Nokia screen will come up on the screen with the USB icon on the top right followed by progression dots with yellow LED blinking for a few seconds. The device will then turn off and go into charging mode with the yellow LED blinking (NOTE: If the device appears to reboot, unplug the cable.)
* Unplug cable and wait for device to turn off completely. You may hear a sound (punk) of the device turning off.
* Having flashed the eMMC,

RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM: %m

D:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5>

i have the same problem when I flash with pr1.1 firmware. i always get the same %m.

Most probably the problem is your computer OS (win XP) can't read the long file name. My windows vista 32 bit is doing the same thing. When i check the firmware's filename in the directory where I stored it, the wasn't there even on the cmd.

Shorten (rename) the filename. Rename the filename RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin to OS3.bin

if you can't find the filename download it again and before saving it change the name to OS3.bin OR pretend to download the file to the same dir. where you stored the previous file before you start the download it will show you the files in the directory and you should see the previous downloaded file. You can just right click and rename the file to OS3.bin (or whatever short name you want to).

On cmd type:

D:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5>Flasher-3.5.exe -F OS3.bin -f -R

You should be able to flash now.

next time you update, shorten the name. It's easier rather than typing the long name. You can rename the next update to OS4.bin or whatever you like as long as you shorten the name.

Sounds like the download is corrupted. You can check the md5sum of the file against those posted on the download site.

The md5sum is a cryptographic hash of the file. On the firmware downloads site there is a MD5SUMS file which provides this value for each of the firmware files. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Md5sum for more details, as well as links to md5sum programs for Windows. If the md5sum you generate for your copy of the firmware file doesn't match the one from the site, you'll need to redownload it.

Just a reminder for those who are having problems using the flasher program.

When entering into flash mode, press the U key on the phone keyboard, not the PC keyboard.

I know this sounds obvious, but it took me forever to figure this out lol.

Hi i have messed up my phone by installing untested software (i knew the risks and i accept the consequences) anyway i flashed my N900 with the flasher 3.5 and it now starts up and works fine and has cleared all the apps.

However i now have no network it does not connect to O2-UK any more and has what looks like a sim card with a line through it in the notification area.

Can anyone help me?

Have you tried cleaning the sim card? Did you change the region when you flashed it?

Which version did you flash with? If you used the original release firmware, then this will happen - the PR1.0.1 release updated the GSM chipset firmware and it's no longer compatible with the original firmware release. Either reflash with the latest firmware (PR1.1.1 should be on the Nokia firmware site now), or use wireless to do an OTA update.

Re: How to flash N900??

I'm in way deep here... :p
I have flashed my N900 3 times now.
First time i did it from the nokia software updater.
Then i got into a boot loop and had to flash again.
First time from Win7 with flasher 3.5. (Boot loop again.)
Then i tryed from Vista with same flasher. I've seen someone had problems flashing from Win7, so therfor i tryed from Vista. (Its 32bit)
I used "RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.BIN"

Now what do i do?
I see the VANILLA file, but i have to flash the FIASCO image first..
What is FIASCO image, where do i find it and how do i flash it?

My N900 is completly useless now, since it only loopin. ;(
Help would be appreciated.

Sorry for my crappy english. :p

That was the problem I was facing. Its simple. Get the image from

http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

Enter your IMEI. And it will direct you to a page from where you can download the latest image File P.R 1.1

Now rename it to anyname you want and paste this file in the flasher folder that should be present in the program files. Dnt make the mistake that I was doing. I right clicked the icon in start menu and selected "Open File Location" which was actually leading me to the Start menu shortcut folder. Dnt do like this. Copy and Paste it in the flasher folder present in Program Files. Hope u will get ur problem resolved
