Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Since the release is nearing, we might have a special thread for this.

Check out the new installation instructions for XA2 that apparently got released already:

https://jolla.com/sailfishx-linux-instructions-xa2/

Keep in mind that dual SIM device images have a problem and in order to flash them correctly, check this:
https://together.jolla.com/question/...post-id-192729

There is now a new shop page, where there is a "free trial" without Android, Exchange and etc.

https://shop.jolla.com/

Btw, the fastboot -i option mentioned was missing in my v28 fastboot, but it wasn't necessary.

We now have the official blog post:
https://blog.jolla.com/new-sailfish-...ts-free-trial/

"The full software package will be available later this year."

The event video shows that the new Android runtime will be 8.1. Also the licenses are per device and that's it.

XA2 Ultra single SIM H3213 (also H3223)
XA2 Ultra dual SIM H4213 (also H4233)

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Successfully unlocked my XA2 H4113 with above linked instructions.

Be advised, after unlocking with fastboot (step 4.7), the first reboot literally takes ages for the android startup wizard to show!
There is no mention of a 5-10 minute first reboot, so be patient and do not hard reset.

Now waiting to complete steps (3.1) and (6).

The rest are "coming soon".

The previous downloads disappeared for me in my account. Can you confirm?

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

It seems the idea is that the core OS is free and you pay for the upgrades. I guess they will offer some kind of upgrade "licenses" to the people that bought the original X.

Getting the free trial unlocks all OS downloads.

On the plus side this might be an indication for app purchases in the store.

Downloads for Xperia X are back with new layout.

EDIT, and after clicking the trial shop link, the downloads for XA2 variants appear in the same account.

Hmm, now I'm not sure if I download X, will the images will be trial or full? :) Since I've already got these two after clicking the free trial button.

Ok, i thought it was my problem. H4113 bootloops too.
Tried multiple downloads.
Grabbing popcorn now watching the presentation :D

(Flashed using linux, maybe a windowser got more luck?)

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Ironically H4133 flashed via Mac boots into Sailfish, but Bluetooth completely absent. Rebooting device restores Bluetooth and now WLAN requires key re-entry. Perhaps like OnePlus One Sailfish port where you should reboot Sailfish after installation before adding credentials?

If you purchased SailfishX for Xperia X you'll get Sailfish OS + Android, which I assume is what you mean by 'full'.
You don't purchase something that's free no?

He meant that at first the downloads disappeared on the shop, then if the free trial button is clicked - all devices downloads reappeared. Meanwhile mosen who didn't click the free trial button said that his X downloads reappeared too.

The problem I described is that it is not clear what are you downloading, since there is no info which download is free trial and which is payed for.

Sorry, I meant I didn't understand if Xperia X download was the free or full version. Looking better it seems there's no Free versione for Xperia X, so I think is the paid version.
Thanks.

Known issues specific to Xperia XA2
Too many failures in installing Sailfish OS to Xperia XA2 devices have been reported tonight (Nov 8th). These devices fail to boot up after a seemingly successful flashing. Please consider postponing the flashing of Sailfish OS to XA2 until we know better the error mechanism and have been able to eliminate it. This would probably save you from unnecessary harm. Apologies for all this.
So just wait a bit...

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Flashing on windows fares better - lights the LED and doesn't reboot loop, but still doesn't boot far enough...

Shutdown LED seems to work too.

Hybris Recovery starts, file system check reports errors, factory reset doesn't work.

I think there is no real difference from before ? The third party licensed stuff (Android emulation, predictive typing, Exchange, etc.) never was on the image & you installed it from the stor on first start.

The only thing which changed is that you can now get the image before first buying a Sailfish X license.

In any case I really like the trial program, as it yet again lowers the barriers for entry - if you have an Xperia X/X compact (patched image)/XA2 you can just try most of the system out without having to shell out for a license first, which should help to bring more of the hesitating future Sailfish OS users on board. :)

No problems flashing the image on XA2.
Might be i was lucky on Arch Linux cause i only installed fastboot from repos yesterday due to bootloader unlocking.

Works absolutely beautiful and fast.

One thing though: Each time i unlock or wake up the phone the screen flickers. Anybody else?

And the closing on apps sucks for me. Never swipe right on the Experia....

It's a known bug noted in their changelog. It shows the last instance before it locked for a split second when it unlocks

As faf as I've looked, there's no way to do that. The only way to hack the DRM back in is by using XperiFIX, but I'm not sure about that

I have tried that by downgrading to 50.1.A.10.40 and used xperifix 3.1 but I cannot confirm any changes.
DRM Info still shows DRM L3 unprotected instead of L1 like before unlocking the bootloader and the camera works fine even without DRM keys, so no changes here either.

In this resource mentions Xperifix 3.2 works with 50.1.A.10.51 & 50.1.A.13.83:

Well I got gifted a XA2 by a friend which I am quite happy about it as was curious if DRM keys could be backed up as they could be with the X. Ohh Xperifix is a paid software :S

That exploit worked for Xperia X downgraded to Marshmallow not devices running Nougat and Xperifix only expected to work upon Oreo not Pie.

Thanks :) so there isn't much point in bothering to backup the DRM keys.

Backing up the keys is most likely a lost cause unless you are planning to sell your XA2 within a year.

There are more reasons why we want to back up DRM keys, the device guarantee is voided, plus the fact that sony devices with SFOS seem to have a yearly cycle?
