Tried that. It clutters the user interface and makes the url textfield unbearable small.

Hmm, just thinking, atm a small amount of url is seen anyways, pressing opens it bigger, so is there any efficiency on that?
Compared to have a placeholder text or the domain and then the reload-button?

It's good to see where you are... Plus you can scroll the URL text (quite useful).

yeah, good to see where u r
but basicly, cant see it without the scrolling. the scrolling anyway is an extra move, kind-of-like pressing the address bar.

My point being -> Its purpose is to see something relevant but since the space for it even now is too small, the purpose doesnt necessarily get fulfilled without "extra moves", thus better to give place for something that does not require "extra moves".

Haha, very dramatic :P

@llelectronics

I made you an alternative icon for Webcat. Feel free to use it if you want - versions in 86px and 250px included (higher resulotion available).

I like it! Do you have an svg of it? I'm trying to learn to draw in vector (I'm mainly a gimp user) and I'd like to look "under the hood" of your image :p

I attach my take on a similar concept, I already showed it to llelectronics some days ago. As you can see, I suck at colours :D

Perfect!
Maybe not my call, but if it were up to me there would be no need to posted any more icons.

My I ask if you can share the svg source file?
I'd like to be able to create an image with that depth and colour balance, I'm a beginner with vector imaging and all I do is horribly flat.

Re: [Announce] Webcat Browser

Nice Icons. Thank you all
I also got an merge request for an icon and merged it. So the current icon in git looks like this: https://github.com/llelectronics/web...our-webcat.png
Maybe we can modify that and insert/overlay the yellow eye of Morpog to that.
@Morpog do you have an SVG of that icon ?

More importantly I am still looking into the code thing and figured out where the cookies are saved.
If someone has knowledge about Qnetworkaccessmanager and qml webview handling of cookies that would be really really helpful as to me this is all new (I got the qt4 stuff working back in the days but qt5 changed a lot as it seems)

Be careful about the countries though. Making them too apparent might make things too cluttered, but they should be visible enough to send a message that this icon is a browser icon. Maybe consider making the background more bluish...it could ruin the contrast to the eye but the background might be a little too dark right now.

Re: [Announce] Webcat Browser

Don't wanna stay to much "off-topic", but great job on the icons guys :D

@Watchmaker: Unfortunately I don't have a svg of it - This time I purely did it in Photoshop where you can also work with vectors, but not save it as pure vector graphics. I'm about to learn GIMP since I'm not the biggest fan of Photoshop & Illustrator anymore.

Colours are always difficult and proper Sailfish icons aren't that easy to make (simple, flat graphics which shouldn't look cheap). Here some advice for Sailfish ones:

-Colour gradients on background
-Foreground (in your case the cat-head) flat colours and design, no or only simple gradients, no patterns
-Make sure you keep a certain margin between background & foreground (see original Sailfish icons as reference)

Since I don't want to spam this thread with graphics stuff, write me a PM if I can help you with anything.

Now let's put the focus back on WebCat browser :)

Wait just saw your app uploaded on Harbour, WTF...

tinywebbrowser was rejected twice cause it eats battery when phone is idle cause of a bug in webkit AFAIK.

What did you do to get it allowed?

Did you disable webkit when app is not active in some way? or have they changed policy latest days :eek:

Re: [Announce] Webcat Browser

I did nothing in particular except uploading the app.

got this last week:

I'm sorry, but I have to reject your application again, still because of too high power consumption. It seems that /usr/lib/qt5/libexec/QtWebProcess process is still waking up when tiny we browser is minimized. It may be that browser engine is not suspended properly in minimized state.

maybe they did not check that in your case then. Seems like a webkit issue to me so should be a problem for all.

Re: [Announce] Webcat Browser

Update:
I worked on some stuff the last couple of days. Unfortunately I still don't get the whole cookie stuff (they changed a lot here between Qt4 and 5).
What I could get to work is clearing cookies by simply removing the file that stores the cookies on the filesystem. This needs however a restart which is currently triggered in the code.

To sum up the new features/fixes:
  • Fixed getting some links (especially relative ones) from site on longpress
  • Fixed requesting new page links that don't use _blank target
  • New default behavior "Open in New Tab" will open tab in background
  • Added set default search engine
  • Added a new icon based upon the one from Morpog (thx for that)
  • Added clear cookies to settings (in PullDown Menu)
  • Changed AddBookmark and settings to Dialog
  • Save userAgentName and use it as default for AddBookmarks aswell
  • Added 'Open in New Window'

RPM Download as usual from openrepos.net: https://openrepos.net/sites/default/....armv7hl_0.rpm

It takes a few days for the harbour version to be updated I guess.

I like it as it is. The icon is very good for an application named Webcat, in my opinion.

Google.com working fine.
G+ also.
If you have problems try another user agent maybe. Google is a bitch when it comes to blocking out some browsers who don't tell them to be android or ios.

That is normal.
It is not possible to delete them currently. I need to take a look on how provide default bookmarks with the ability to delete them. It seems not as easy as it sounds ;)

Need a hint? ;)

Here is my version of the db.transaction() function you have in your db.js

Code:

db.transaction(function(tx){
                    tx.executeSql('CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS settings(key TEXT UNIQUE, value TEXT)');
                    var table  = tx.executeSql("SELECT * FROM settings");
                    // Insert default values
                    if (table.rows.length === 0) {
                        tx.executeSql('INSERT INTO settings VALUES(?, ?)', ["region", qsTr("1")]);
                        tx.executeSql('INSERT INTO settings VALUES(?, ?)', ["forecastIndex", 0]);
                        tx.executeSql('INSERT INTO settings VALUES(?, ?)', ["hidePush", 1]);
                    };
                });

The following code is how it is done (in your case, replace 'settings' with 'bookmarks'). Default bookmarks are going to reappear only if the bookmark database is empty.

Code:

var table  = tx.executeSql("SELECT * FROM settings");
if (table.rows.length === 0) {
...
}

It is convenient to load the bookmarks on the first run as well as the settings (I see that your 'default settings' loading is a bit different, but I see this as a more elegant way).

In case of settings, I just put following code in the main qml file:

Code:

function getSetting(key) {
            openDB();
            var res = "";
            db.transaction(function(tx) {
                var rs = tx.executeSql('SELECT value FROM settings WHERE key=?;', [key]);
                res = rs.rows.item(0).value;
            });
            return res;

        Component.onCompleted: {
            region = getSetting('region');
            forecastIndex = getSetting('forecastIndex');
            hidePush = getSetting('hidePush');
        }

I hope this helps :)

I really need to open source my app as soon as I have time to do it - this code posting is tiring :)

It's a secret to me how one can't understand this icon, beside it's being really epic.
Please donīt change it. :)

There is no address completion yet or is it just in a setting I can't find?
At the first uses I didn't notice that this much needed feature seems to be unavailable.

Another great app! I especially like that I can set a homepage and not reload the page(s) I was reading yesterday (or redownload a file I've already downloaded).

Yes, thanks to Chrome & Opera, the ability to set a homepage can be considered a breakthrough feature in 2014.

You seem to be right. The manuall adding of bookmarks seems to be broken since the last update (the introduction of dialog for adding bookmarks).
A quick bugfix is on the way

Would be good if by holding longer at the bookmark link we could also choose options "Open in new window" and "Open in new tab". At the moment it only offers "Delete" option.
