Tor nodes are mostly blocked in China. VPN or ssh tunnel are safer bets.
FYI, the official repository of Jolla is blocked as well :D (depends on your ISP)

you can set up a transparent proxy on your pc and share it via wifi.
or grab a sim-card from china unicom with a large data plan
the connection issue will persist even if you have your device...

You cannot run 'pkcon update' if you haven't enabled develop mode.
The username is 'nemo'.
You may find the ip address from your home wifi router; the hostname of the phone in early versions is...

It does not use the WLAN configs. Instead an iptables script is needed to 'hijack' all the traffic through the proxy. 'Transparent' means that the system does not know there is a proxy set up.

Tip: PostNL allows sending Li-ion batteries by air. Try to find some mail forwarding services in NL so you do not need to separate the phone and the battery.
