Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

To be absolutely honest, I have never seen N900's damaged chip that would "look" damaged (burned, or something) - it looked exactly like before damage. Although, some of them *smelled* as burned.

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

If you have heated PCB so much with 25W iron, the 40W could just "finish the job". I don't think touching shield was the problem, I think that it was heat transfer from the part you were soldering....

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

I'm afraid you might have, accidentaly shortcut something with a small drop of solder, that landed somewhere where it shouldn't. Or, what is also possible, you heated part of N900 too much, and it...

Re: Security: Heartbleed on N900

I think fixing KeepassX comment is less about Heartbleed and more about password security in general.

I agree it would be nice to get KeePassX usable on the N900.

All I know is, that "ball-like behavior" is normal for molten metals. Are you using rosin flux (http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/solder/fluxes/rosin-flux-835/) or something?

AIUI, _David_ mean the scrapped PCB on sides of the port, made when reinforcing USB port via dr_frost_dk's method. Of course, all of above post's advices apply - I would just add that you need to be...

Re: Fixing USB port, before and after it is to late. (All info in one Thread) (See POST #1)

Try practicing on something else lest you destroy your PCB pads. I did not have any problems, but I've had 30+ years worth of soldering practice behind me. There is not much to it: clean the PCB off...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

That can happen if your kernel versions don't match. Happened to me too: I ended up having to reflash, make sure I installed a matching kernel, and then restore with BackupMenu.

You may be in a...

Re: N900 no longer finds phone networks

As you suspect, possible hardware failure.

As always only a full reflash will rule out software issues.

Have you tried 2G or 3G only mode?
Any debug messages with devtools? dmesg?

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (POST #1) - New Layout

Ebay, pisenexport and pisenelectronic are factory sellers.

Also as an aside batteries from both sellers are indeed 1400mAh (the ones I received were anyway). They advertise selling lesser...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

For sure fremantle is bloated in some of its parts, but it has the advantage to "just work". I don't...

Re: Recommended browser for N900?

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9

I could think of a few things that would help performance on our poor N900 : Thumb2, using the swap on the eMMC instead of the uSD card (aka flopswap), gcc 4.8 compiler.

But the first and last...

I reckon here is fine, until such time as something sponsored by the relevant parties (hopefully the HFB/C can be a part of that) is set-up.
If it's still not completed by the time the device starts...
