Re: Microsft planning to buy nokia!

Companies deny everything before the official announcement.

What if Microsoft really bought Nokia's smartphone division leaving Nokia in Finland to produce dumpb-phones and would-be smartphone...

Re: HP keeping WebOS after all, making it open-source to the community

Simple - nobody bothered (I told this story a couple of times already). I personally made a 4.7 build nearly a year ago in just a couple of hours, but that (along with my dev env) sadly went down...

Re: HP keeping WebOS after all, making it open-source to the community

Sorry but that's totally wrong. Maemo contained open source, but it was never an open source project per se, and was never available for third parties to licence either. Nevertheless some...

Re: HP keeping WebOS after all, making it open-source to the community

No, I ran the full OS, except the kernel. And except Bluetooth, telephony.. the usual gang.

IMHO, the only thing I really wanted from webOS to be opensourced is Enyo, and that's exactly the only...

Re: surprisingly: WebOS is going open source

Not in any great detail, no. Enyo has specifically been announced in the press release, "along with a plan for the remaining components of the user space".

Personally I would be very very...

Re: surprisingly: WebOS is going open source

@OP: Include the press release.

On a side note, can we send HP a cake with the Maemo.org logo on it, with the caption "WE WERE HERE FIRST, *****ES!"

Talking surprisingly: WebOS is going open source

Hi fellow sufferers!

Today HP announced: WebOS is going open source (http://developer.palm.com/blog/2011/12/open-source/)!

Personally I like this kind of news. But what will happen now to WebOS...

Re: Phones with preinstalled spyware CarrierIQ

I find it interesting that a security professional would think that the type of phone you use would protect you from prying eyes. Moreover recommend a standard phone and not something like sectera...

Re: Phones with preinstalled spyware CarrierIQ

Well, whatever kind of *software* firewall you run can be disabled (or configured) by any program running with euid = 0. I assume a decent manufacturer would let their rootkit run as root :), so no...

Re: Phones with preinstalled spyware CarrierIQ

This wouldn't be in actual community builds of Android, or straight-from-google Android source - so no, it won't be in NitDroid. Phones that do have it had it manually and at least in the case of HTC...

Re: Do We Have a Meego-Harmattan User Community?

You seem to be forgetting that for the community to transition to Harmattan, the members of the community needs an N9(50). But most of us do not have one. This is partly due to the price and partly...

Re: Do We Have a Meego-Harmattan User Community?

The N9 is not the successor to the N900. The N950 might possibly have been (if they'd slapped a real Maemo desktop on it), but the N9 is a botched, stymied, neutered little ****** baby who was DOA...

FWIW, I discussed this exact issue with my attorney some days ago, and while a discussion of the legality of this is beyond the scope of this missive, I can say what his responses were regarding a...

Re: IOS vs. Android all looking at Meego

It depends on what you're after. Certainly, I'm here because of the N900 and what it brought to the table in terms of giving me control, and with Mer/Nemo, it's closer to perfect than anything else....

C'mon, man. This is flat out false information.

I appreciate your efforts, but I don't think you understand what 'fragmentation' means.

Each API level brings new functionality, and each new...

Re: Should I a Nexus Prime, N9 or just keep my N900?

Well I don't own an N9 but do have a SGSII courtesy of my brother.
I've been holding out too long with the N900 so when I needed a renewal I chose the SGS on a cheap plan. I've since traded that for...

Re: Should I a Nexus Prime, N9 or just keep my N900?

Hmm stuff I've read suggests N9 comes out on top, except for flash & speed (in some instances, not all).
Some of the other points (from you & others) don't smell quite right either, based on...

Re: Should I a Nexus Prime, N9 or just keep my N900?

We need to be honest about the positives and negatives about each platform. N900/Maemo was ahead of its competition (best web browser on the market, video calling) and almost every body in TMO...
