So... this chip, in addition to the running the N900's own touchscreen, can also handle 4 capacitive contacts. Would be great to use these (e.g. place a strip or ipod-like touch wheel on the battery...

I'd point out that the HP48 calculators all used bidirectional CIR for calculator-to-calculator and calculator-to-printer comms. Not that that's a particularly compelling use-case now, as the later...

And it was fixed days ago, so no need to revert.

Eh, the hardware doesn't care if you're running games or what -- if you don't want to use the d-nubs as gaming controls, I'm sure you can get them to move the cursor a la U820, or just ignore them....
