PC Suite is a misleading error message by HAM devs, I'm not sure why the package is kept back, try apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr and see...

You should setup through POP3.
For this in modest press new Account.
Don't Choose Service Provider just press next...
enter mail, username (before @), password)
press next:
Account type POP3...
