You could downgrade the device.

Regarding the track skipping there was a post about a dirty hack on TJC, i personally have never tried it.

Could you give the output of
devel-su mcetool | grep 'Adaptive dimming threshold'

It should be 10000msecs

If not you can adjust it with
devel-su mcetool --set-adaptive-dimming-time=10000...
